that's the office guys. Field surveyors are typically pretty /fit/ sometimes skinny and wirey.
All that hiking, carrying shit, whacking brush lines and pounding hubs keeps you at least moderately /fit/

You'll get used to it. I'm in forestry and the first month of my job my feet and ankles were very sore from walking and standing all day, but over time your feet develop a lot of tiny, but significant muscles for standing and walking on uneven terrain. I recommend getting gel inserts for your boots and don't be afraid of getting your pants wet from all the grass and brush.

yeah, seems about right. here's a pic of the boots i have. i wore them for 12-13 hour shifts as a medic spending most of my day on my feet on pavement ad hospital tile. absolute god tier cushioning.

full disclosure: they're shit on packed snow or slick, clay mud-no grip whatsoever in those conditions.

I tried these in the field. Great in the city and on trails, terrible in the bush. OP invest in some solid danners or hanwags or something. Dunlop rubber boots possibly. All the surveyor types I know are into that kind of thing.

I know by the end of my day, I take my work boots off and put on a pair of street shoes for the drive home.
I get the best performing boots I can for field work, But no matter how good they are for working in, by the end of the day they need to come off.

yeah that's only a part of what some surveyors do, or alot of what other surveyors do.
The rest of the time they're out in the middle of bum-fucked nowhere, thousands of feet or more from any road, wacking brushlines through the forest or digging for corner monuments in the most god-awful places sometimes

I walk about 10 miles a day on my days off and it takes about 3.5-4 hours. That is on concrete/asphalt and not carrying anything. Twenty-ish miles, carrying equipment on most likely undeveloped land would be brutal.
