Why another one? It's better to have people ask the same stupid, repeated questions in the same place, rather than constantly making new threads for them.

>inb4 knifes

Just got done cutting clip screw threads in my knockoff PM. Overall it wasn't a bad buy, but for some reason they made all 4 sets of clip screw holes and only bothered to tap 1/4 position.

Honestly I've gotten cheaper knives with better quality, but the design is not bad.

I agree that they're god tier design & fucking beautiful, but because collectors fight amongst themselves for them, the high price just isn't practical.

I don't know if this counts, but I got this not three days ago and have used it a couple times. It works well, but it has flooding issues that i know how to fix it just need the time to do it. Also, if you aren't finding an old axe head at a garage or estate sale and building/buying a new handle for it you're doing something wrong

Just picked up a Gransfors felling axe this weekend (at discount) and then spotted this splitting maul head at a garage sale for $2. The splitter is probably junk but I don't need high quality to split firewood IMO.

Sadly I had to go into Fjallraven to buy the Gransfors, you should've heard the things their salesman said about axes.

Probably pushing more into /whereever-collectibles-belong/ territory, but anyone familiar with Schrade Cutlery? Picked this up for $20 bucks at a flea market, figured it was a few throwaway knives. But this set is going for up to $500 on ebay? They seem like nice enough knives, early 80s production, bone handles, engraved blades.

Also any general opinions on Opinel? Local fellow recommended them for wood carving. Read some good reviews, but from the look of them and the whole 'Made in France from recyclable materials' makes me wonder if they are just hipster stuff.
>>
>>798671
Schrade is great shit. They were around for like the entire 20th century but went tits-up in the early 2000s. the plant closed, everyone lost their jobs. The name rights were later bought some some shitshilling corporation that manufactures 100% in China, so the Schrade knives out there now are just chinese crap and have no connection to the real company.

Anyway, that collection you have is probably a real collectible

I have a Schrade folder (like a buck 110) that they made for Craftsman in the 90s. It's a fucking great knife

thoughts on the UMC knife purely for a woods-knife? no combat stuff, only for woods use?
i think its sexy as fuck and i am hearing a lot of conflicting stuff.

so. the usmc kabar, for a woods-blade. yay or nay? i have other knives dont worry this would just be an addtion.

ive heard bad things about the tang but is this just
>Muh i tried to baton through a 30cm hard oak and it broke!!

how is it a whittling? generally, how does it cut wood? fine cutting etc?
how does the sheath carry? is it high? does it slap against the leg? how does the handle feel with big warm gloves? how does the leather on the sheath and handle faire in snow? ( i have never owned a knife with leather handle or sheath, so, how dies this work in snow?)

please. anything
>>
>>800365
ignore anything said by anyone who is stupid enough to pound a knife through a log

whittling?
not so much, it is quite thick

the leather sheath with mine has a loop for the belt, so it sits low....it might flop around a bit considering how long it is (that's what she said), but if that is the issue, there is always the short kabar....overall more realistic
>>
>>800374
might be pleb around here, but im not ashamed to admit it but ive only ever used mora´s, besides the one time a buddy of mine lend me his Buck knife and it was shit,
and i dont know jack shit about blade shape or edge or any of that stuff, but, i guess il ask it like this, does it cut like a mora classic?
sorry for bad english
>>
>>800377
no, moras are sharpened to much lower/sharper angles than kabars are....if you want something for whittling, a mora would probably serve a lot better

that doesn't mean you can't re-grind a kabar, but the blades are much thicker and better suited to higher angle bevels for rougher tasks
>>
>>800385
You see my friend. I read those words but I can't connect them with reality. The usmc akbar can carve a featherstick yes? Would it be better or worse then a fallkniven? I already have moras.
>>
>>800395
size comparison

right out of the box? probably not, the angle is not sharp enough....of course, that could be changed

there's no reason to spend a crazy amount of money on a knife when there are plenty of other options

better or worse depends on the person and how they're going to use it....there's nothing a $200 knife will do that a $50 or even a $10 one absolutely can't

I personally don't like it for a woods knife. I sold mine. The blade too narrow and long to be good at carving and whittling, and you need to take off one part of the handguard to be able to choke up on it to do bushcraft tasks effectively. Having said that, it is fairly capable, the steel, construction and fit and finish are good but there are better options. If you like it i would get it, but be realistic in your expectations.

New in /out/. Lurked on some threads for info on multi tools and folding knifes. Saw some S&W folding knifes and a multi tool and thinking of buying items like those(would be my first of both). What type, brand, etc. should i consider. It won't be for hiking. More like everyday use or on a backpack on my car

Is $25-$40 a reasonable price range for starting? I can go higher but want to see the beginners options. I don't want something that will break easily thou

Leatherman is GOAT for the multitools. Keep an eye out for sales. They are a little pricey compared to S&W and Walmart brands but they should last for decades. The difference is huge when you try and compare them to a cheap one. Realistically, $50-$100 depending on what you want from it. Maybe cheaper if you get a less expensive one on sale.

Knives, there are a million brands. Can't go wrong with a Kershaw, CRKT, or even Gerber if you don't want to break the bank.

My parents got me and my brother a couple of these little pic relateds when I was about 9 and he was 11.

We were fucking around with them out back and my brother did something where he stuck the blade through his pinky finger. Went past the bone and right out the other side. He screamed and bled horribly. We're not sure but he must have severed the nerve because his pinky finger has been numb since then.

My parents let us keep the knives though kek

people who pass driver's ed get into accidents, people who know it's illegal to ræp 11yr old girls still ræp them, people who are explicitly told "do not throw coins in the fountain" throw fucking coins in the fountain.

i wish the world was as simple as "say it and it will be so" but it isn't.

I've got a Brusletto handed down to me by my grandpa, it's served me well since I've been using it. He found it in Algonquin park back in the 70's. Found a pic of the same knife on Google

Blanket statements like that are always amusing.

Fixed blades are always superior in outdoors situations in every single challenge, from being in the wild to climbing a mountain

They also have a wider variety of styles shapes and sizes and are always stronger no matter what size.

They dont even have to be heavier than a folder.

So yes, fixed blades are always objectively superior in every situation.

Go ahead and put a fixed blade in your pocket you dweeb
