I just got a new pair of hiking boots and sprayed them down with NeverWet. How well does it work? Am I going to be impressed or disappointed?

Just remember that there's no such thing as being really waterproof. Just water resistant.
My boots have a sympatex liner. No leaks yet, but I haven't really tested them too hard. Puddles and streams mostly.

I bought the Bass Pro RedHead brand spray like that for my knock-off Tims.
One application helped a little, but after two applications and it got much better. My main problem was the morning dew soaking into the fake leather or whatever they are made of. If I totally submerge them, my socks will still get wet. But I can now walk around the grass in the morning for an hour or two without getting wet socks. And I sprayed them quite a few months ago and haven't had to do it again yet.
tl;dr:
Don't expect a miracle but it does work.

I wasn't impressed for a minute. It doesn't work as well as it does in the commercials, and it leaves an ugly white film on the leather. I returned it to Lowe's.

Are the boots that shiny smooth leather? Because I couldn't tell any difference in looks when I sprayed my fake Tims with the Bass Pro stuff. And I wasn't expecting miracles but the stuff did work.

neverwet is a super hydrophobic coating in 2 parts, made from proprietary space magic. the stuff from bass pro/lowes/tractor supply etc is usually silicone spray.
