It needs to be Friday already so I can fish all day. I think I should quit my job and try to work on a fishing charter.

Pls stop trolling and giving shitty advice to newcomers. At least on purpose. Also, pls let the baby strippers live so they can grow to be tasty 30"+ feesh.

Cutest fish is goblin shark and panda cory.

Let's talk about fishin.

I know a few shorelines that drop from 0 to 100+ a few feet from shore, guess any steep shoreline like that would work. I don't cast it in water under 25. I can troll it to 30+ with 8lb fluoro and 100+ yards of line out.

I try and run some deeper diving cranks at these man made lakes, but they all have that ledge like 10' off the shore which is almost vertical and really rocky. If you even get near it with a crank, 75% chance the lure is gone.

I have never had a ton of luck with deep diving cranks anyway. I do much better with suspending Rapalas. Not sure why. I have also been a big fan of those Shad Raps with the goody curved lips lately.
>>

minnow and vibrating aren't even real categories. Minnow is just the shape and can be crank/jerk or even spoon.

Vibrating is just one characteristic of crankbait, just as different lip shapes vs no lip. Opposite of vibrating is silence crank and there are lipless silence crank as well.

Jerkbait also can be floating, suspending, or even sinking.

Come on, with your vast collection of lures, you should not make such mistake.

I didn't make that first one, some anon did. I'm can't into computahs enough to do it. Plus I'm lazy.

I did have the copypasta for different types of cranks that goes with this pic
>>
>>775265
They look more like mooching center pin
3/10 would not reccomend
Look at the Cabellas 3 forks combo
It goes on sale regularly and for under 70 bucks on sale it seems pretty solid from what I've done with mine.
>>
>>775269
>>775270
Crankbaits

So pic related is pretty much 2 of each of the main types of cranks that you will see. Top left are regular diving cranks. I think those will normally run like 6'-10' deep depending on how fast you reel and line and all that shit and then they float to the top when you stop reeling. Top middle is squarebill cranks, they float when not moving but will normally dive 3'-5' when cranked. Top right are the lipless rattlers. They sink when not being reeled, so you keep em suspended by reeling them in and they normally wobble a bit too.

Bottom left is going to be a suspending jerkbait. They dive slightly when reeled, and they just suspend when you stop reeling them. Rapala Husky Jerks and X-Raps are a couple types of these lures.

Bottom middle are floating and shallow diving cranks. The top one is a Bass Pro brand I think and the bottom is an "Original" Rapala. They look real similar to the suspending jerkbaits, but most of the time you see that body shape, it will be floating and shallow diving unless the package specifically says "Suspending" or something similar. Those are a great lure. You crank it a few times, let it stop and suspend a could feet under water, twitch it a couple times, and the fish love to hit them on that pause or as soon as you start moving them after the pause.

And finally, bottom right are some real deep divers. They will normally float when not being reeled, but will shoot down to 8'+ as soon as you start cranking them in.
>>

>decide to go fishing
>line on spinning reel is like 10 years old and brittle
>put on some brand new 15lbs test line
>go fishing for panfish
>every cast the bait lands and lines springs off the spool like a party favor
>every time there's a bite
>dat feel when I forgot to practice cast the line memory out before fishing in the yard

On the upside, I caught enough sunfish to feed my cat, who always comes with me for the small ones.
>>
>>775284
For sure. Maybe I will come down that way on Saturday then. Or that first Miramar lake and the one across the street from it.

I want you guys to come up here one day. Too bad weekday traffic is so shitty. I could still possibly get down south on certain weekdays too but I never know what time I'm going to get out of work until I see my route. And even then shit can always go wrong.

>tfw head gasket blows on the truck on I-95

>>
>>775255
But in all reality I'm probably going to try o sell these reels at tag sale or at pawn shop
5-15$ asking price seems reasonable right?
Il probably pair some of the with rods and ask 20-25$
>>
>>775274
Not really I just kinda buzz around portage county except for the steelhead run then I'm up by fairport harbor but I'll probably do some of the Rocky river now that I've got waders and schitt to target steelies on fly

> 15 lbs test line mono for panfish

That's way too heavy for panfish and heavy mono is a mess on spinning reel.
>>
>>775293
+1

>>775288
Anything over 8lb mono becomes a pain on spinning reels IMO.
>>
>>775293
This
15 pound is crazy strong
2-4 pound test is right for panfish
6 is starting to get a little heavy
8 is the maximum justifiable but is more like bass finesse schitt
10-15 is a good General bass, walleye, and small catfish line
>>
>>775297
8 ls is manageable for me, i hae good 12 lb on one reel, and its manageable, i also have some good 20 lb on another reel, an its manageable, i have some shitty 15 lb stuff on one of my conventional reels and its a bitch, but its fine because i use it with heavy weight and not casting
>>
>>775293
>>775297
>>775298
>>775300
You just have to cast it a dozen or so times to get the line memory out of it and it works fine then.

It is 15lbs because I normally catch channel catfish and smallmouth bass with it. I'm not about to swap out line for individual fish types. I even have 50lbs braided on another pole and sometimes use it for sunfish. I also have 1lbs test on an ultra light.

So, you can take your poles and pedantic banter and shove it up your asses.
>>
>>775297
Depends on the reel
On anything smaller than a 3500 it's a pain but after you get to 4500-5000 I'm content with mono up to 30 pound test

Also I'm buying heavier braid for my meme caster
I lost a frog and a very nice bass today
I'm getting at least 40 pound power pro next time I'm out
I'll put this braid on a different reel
>>
>>775302
>Only bringing one rod at a time
I ride a motorcycle to the lake and still manage 3 rods easy, same when I used to bicycle to the lake

>>
>>775300
Yeah 12-15lb is ok on larger reels for catfish and stuff, but on medium weight spinning combod, I don't even like doing 10lb. 6lb-8lb is where it's at. Or braid.

>>775304
30 is still pretty damn strong. Just make sure you don't hate it after putting 40lb or 50lb on there.

Dick's just had 300yd Power Pro for $19.99. I wonder if it's still habbening.
I have so much #40 laying around too that I don't use, I would've gladly put SuperSlick #40 on that reel before I sent it.

Come where? Up this way?

Fridays are hit or miss. Sometimes I can get off work by like 2pm, sometimes it is 4pm. But either way I'll bring stops back before I get stuck there too late.

I was thinking if you were to come up north a little on a weekday afternoon, you could beat traffic heading up here by like 3pm and then by the time you head back around 8pm or 9pm, it should be clear.

I've read about collective subconscious and st00f, but I often wonder if it really is something rather permanently embedded in our genes to feel happy and at peace in nature, particularly the snowy woods. I mean, our ancestors, for hundreds of generations, were born and died in the snowy bosom of mother europe. Now it's being overrun by islamic savages but that's a topic for /pol/ to deal with. In any case, since we evolved in that environment, why would it NOT be part of our collective subconscious? I think there's something to it brother.
Never seen a shit skin marvel at nature, only seen them run from it or make it fight for money.

Anon that made that chart here.

No they make a specific line of lures that are strictly known for vibrating. They are not crank baits. They sink to the bottom and drag along the bottom. Hitting against the ground while reeling causes vibrations.

Your other arguments are just petty.

I have a few Abu inlines as well, I think those are Swiss made.

Wanted to add it's amazing how those Jitterbugs, Heddon Torpedoes, and Mepps, Rooster Tails, and Panther Marlins haven't changed one bit in decades while all these other companies are trying to reinvent the wheel with some lures.

It seems like Mepps are falling out of favor with a lot of people these days and it amazes me. They have always been one of the most versatile lures for me, but seems like people these days would rather run $15 cranks or specialty soft plastics. I think the less people use them, the better fish hit them though.

Sad to see. I think they will always be around though. I know I will keep shilling for them.

That was one of the last bass I caught in IL before I moved to Florida. Goddamn do I miss largemouth that look like that, especially with the markings below the eyes.

I get a few with the markings down the side, but most of them around here are just dark green, almost black, on top and fade right to silver and white on the bottom. Pic related is probably the best markings I get in FL.

Traditional spinners run through weeds suprisingly well. Inlines not so much.

>>775925
You say that now but when you finally get to the lake, you will change your mind. I had a blast a couple weekends ago when the 12" largemouth were hitting those finesse worms every cast.

Anyway the bass in the post you quoted was probably 14" or 15", the one I posted after that was a little guy. Remember how close-up pictures like that work. The "MAYBE 2lb" bass ended up being almost 20". Larger than the one pic you always post and not even close to the shoe bass that I post sometimes.

I think I'm gonna hit a lake sort of like that in a little bit. Big ass weed bed that goes like 20yds out, so best bet is weedless stuff, cast as far as possible, and try to hit a bass before getting into the weeds. Pic related is one from that weed bed a week or two ago.

>>775938
Who was it that posted they were catching a lot on it? I have a few of them but don't use them a ton. Just that chartruese one that the Mayans love to attack. I give it little twitches and it looks like a struggling baitfish.

>>775941
I'm not sure I agree. Inlines are basically rakes. I want to get some split rings and put some 2/0 worm hooks on cheap 1/4oz inlines so I can run weedless curly tail grubs, Gulp minnows, or finesse worms on them.
>>
>>775938
Reel it in and twitch it. The only thing different from a crank really is they sink, so if you want to go a little slower on your retrieve I'd suggest holding the tip of your rod a little higher to keep it off the bottom if you think it'll snag.

I'm gonna post this one again. Pretty much covers anything I would use for bass on a given day.

I would say aside fron what you have, add a couple different cranks besides a mid-depth regular chubby guy. Maybe a rattling lipless one like the Red Eye Shad™ and some suspending stuff like Rapala X-Raps or Husky Jerks.

I also have way better luck with soft plastics just Texas rigged instead of on a jig. Not sure if anybody else has this experience. The Texas rigs rip through cover and rocks n shit better than jigs anyway, even if the jig has a heavy weed guard.

Make sure one of those spinners is an inline too. Mepps Agila #4 or #5.

>>775860
>>775864
It's not actually sick.

There are two reason why a largemouth looks like this. The first one is because spawn takes a lot out of a female bass and they lose a lot of weight due to not eating while on the nest. You catch a lot of skinny bass during post spawn for this reason. The second is a lack of proper forage for a larger bass. A largemouths eyes, skull and the rest of the skeleton will continually grow to a certain size, regardless of food. These bass more than likely only have small baitfish to feed on and lack a population of breeding bluegill or large shad to feed on in the summer months. This is due to poor habitat in improperly stocked ponds caused by lack of cover for baitfish and overpopulation of bass.

Could've been the spawning thing. It still fought a bit and hit pretty hard, so it wasn't like it was on its death bed.

There are always lots of smaller bluegill and cichlids nearby. But the spot where I caught this bass (twice) is also near where I get lots of snakeheads so not sure if that could have to do with it. But most bass I catch there look relatively healthy. That's the only one I have ever gotten where it was that bad. Pic related was at the same lake but right around the corner from that spot.

The principle- that boat fishing is vastly different and superior to bank fishing- still applies. In fact, it is even more relevant. You can fish all along the depth contour lines of any structure with a boat- sunken points/islands, mid lake humps, flats, etc. It's wholly different from bank fishing and everyone here needs to get a boat asap.

I live a three minute walk away from a gold medal trout stream... That's usually only reliably fishable between October and April because it's a tailwater upstream of a massive agricultural area and gets shredded by runoff every fucking year there isn't a drought on and this year in particular I'm not expecting good fishing until about the first week of November.

On the 16th the flow was 300CFS and the river was low, smooth and gin-clear with rising fish everywhere and on the 18th the flow was 1400CFS and the river was unfishable. Too deep to wade, too fast to drift, too strong to paddle and no powered watercraft allowed even if there weren't barely-submerged weirs everywhere and no place to put in. God damn it.

Goddamn is was satifying today actually getting a few bass over 2lbs, two of them had to be 3lb+. Had another 3lb'er on the line for a minute but shook the hook loose when he jumped out of the water.

My old nig buddy who is always there has been telling me about a lake maybe 15min or 20min away where him and his buddies have been catching lots of 5lb+ bass, nothing small over there and they get at least half a dozen big guys each. Water is supposed to be nice and murky and no sneks up that way. I have to check that out this weekend.

>>776178
That sucks

>>776190
I would love to get a kayak at least to launch in some of my little lakes. Especially since the water gets so warm here. I had to cast so far out today just to get any largemouth bigger than 12". I was almost down to the mono backing on my baitcaster with #30 PowerPro and the bigger bass were hitting it right on the edge of my casting range.

I would also like to be able to get on the water and cast towards some of the trees hanging over the water because sneks love to hang out there and get spooked when walking along the shore. I could hit lots of great spots on the canals too.

I was doing some late night fishing with my frog lure, and something dragged maybe 10ft of line very quickly, but when I went to set the hook I just ended up pulling it out of the fish's mouth.

the way the hooks wrap over, it just seems so clumsy and awkward for you to get the right angle to dig into the fish's mouth

They are tricky. With topwater stuff like that, you have to let the fish grab it and drag it underwater for a second or two before setting it. If you try and set it as soon as you see them jump for it, you will never get them.

Bass aren't too hard to hook, but I get gar taking shots at those topwater frogs and it is damn near impossible to hook them because of their mouths. Maybe you had something like that.
>>
>>776276
It's hard
I maybe get a 20%-25% hookup rate on frogs

Depends what you want and where you live. I live in VIC along the great ocean road where we get a huge variety of stuff. Regular 50g+ shiny metal lures are great for kingfish and tuna, anything under that gets mackerel and salmon. Decent sized poppers and 100g+ lures while trolling or jigging can get tuna, pelagic sharks and kingfish. I use homemade shiny bits of rubber cut to look like baby squid. It fucking rocks.

Running sinker rigs while anchored with a berley pot gives you snapper and all manners of sharks.

25 meters (depending on where you are fishing) gives decent sized everything. 75 metres youre looking at big game. 175metres if you want swordfish and makos bigger than your boat.

No clue about fishing in the US but my understanding is that florida is the same as Australia. Troll or spin for small oily baitfish like mackerel and salmon, drive out deeper to the edge of a reef, anchor and either use live bait on a game rod or fillets on regular setups.

Shallows with pippies or squid will give whiting and flathead in my area.

Other than for surf fishing this is a good factor of it, not much gets through it but sharks with teeth, in which case i use 100lb or wire leader.

What's the difference between the improved clinch and the regular clinch?
>>
>>776524
I get rays that are 5 foot from wing tip to wing tip on 17 and 20 pound test
30 is actually pretty heavy for a surf rig
>The heavier the line the shorter the cast
Get a 1/8 ounce jighead, cast it with 6 pound test then with 15 pound test, you'll know what I'm on about
The longer your cast the more it's magnified
Then for surf fishing it gives you extra line strength in the waves. You get to drag it up the beach with 50+ pound test instead of 20
>>
>>776527
Spanish mackerel seem to be pretty leader shy too
>>
>in woods river fishin.

> run out of worms

what do? There has to be something that works

>The longer your cast the more it's magnified
What do you mean by this?
>>
>>776561
Dig up some worms
>>
>>776565
say you normally cast 30 feet, with 6 lb test, when you go up to 15 lb test you might only cast 20 feet So for every 30 foot you cast you lose 10 ft by going up in line weight, With 5 ounces of weight and a 10 foot pole, you might normally be able to cast 90 feet , ( now this is assumung you are still using 6 and 15 lb test but the same theory applies to moving up in line weight ) But if youre going up in weight class, your distance will be cut down by 10 feet ( for every 30 feet you cast) So instead of throwing 90 feet, you would only be throwing 60

Now all the numbers, line weights and bullshit are made up But do you understand the concept?
>>
>>776568
I wasn't sure if he meant the casting distance or the line test. I was confused by

>Then for surf fishing it gives you extra line strength in the waves. You get to drag it up the beach with 50+ pound test instead of 20

Like the waves help you bring the fish to shore so it's closer to 50 pound test?
>>
>>776565
>>776568
Basically when going up in line weight you lose x Feet per Y feet you cast, So if you cast 3 times y you lose three times x ( in theory)
or it could be per every y feet cast you lose .25 of that by going up in line weight ( once again all percentages etc are bullishit but you get the idea )
>>
>>776569

not really, the frog is meant to be swallowed whole, and then you set the hook, you'd be very hard pressed to find a crappie or bluegill large enough to take in a frog lure, but hey, go for it

What if i put a weight on the frog? Would a carp/catfish hit it if they think it's a dying?
>>
>>776571
Okay so picture breaking waves and 2-3 foot of water
The water rises 5 feet in a few seconds then drops 5 feet in a few seconds
When the wave comes in you can just ride it in on the wave
But then you have to hold it as the wave flows out till you can get another wave to ride
If you've got the striper of a lifetime would you rather hold him in that outflow on 20 or 80 pound test
Granted you have to run a long shock for that ( I run about 40 feet because high vis mainline)

Remember what I said, if you don't catch anything at these lakes, we can never go fishing together again.

You should have some luck though. We will go to this one spot where it is really rocky and I always just run Mepps or those Blue Fox spinner you got almost parallel to the shore and I get Mayans, snakeheads, and bass all the time. Some bluegill in there too.

And around the bend from those rocks is where some bigger bass start to hit as the sun goes down. Plus the lake I was at last night with that great weed patch is right across the street.
