Rock noob here, so I picked up this rock the other day and immediately thought that this is a flint rock, but it was not like any other flint I've ever seen. Are there any geologists here that can help me identify this rock, and tell me how valuable/rare is it. Rock was from Jordan btw. Thank you.

looks kinda like talc and soapstone. try scratching the white parts with your nail. If it comes off that's whatcha got.
It's pretty hard to tell this kinda stuff without feeling the hardness/texture.
>>
>>748358
Could also be rainbow obsidian or some kind of agate if the middle part is more glassy. The obsidian would be worth a bit, but agate not so much.
>>
>>748358
The white does not scratch off. the stone is heavier than most, and the colored part is smooth to the touch. I would also say it's quite had.
>>
>>748360
The stone is not glassy.
>>
Looks like chert or some microcrystalline quartz mineral nodule in marble, hard to tell though.

This, it is nodular chert
Source, im a geologist

So what do you suggest i do with the rock? Should I keep it the way it is, or should I do something else with it?
>>
>>750895
Place it in a plastic bag. Double bag it. Wrap it in aluminum foil. Take a shower, scrub your body with a coarse sponge. Bring it to your local authorities. Then proceed to the nearest hospital.

where at in Florida? I know where to get a bunch of this shit.. if you're willing to be a bit sneaky and smash big ass rocks.

I've been calling it Agate/chert pretty much ever since Ive known about it. because it normally has a sandstone kinda outter crust, about 1-3 inches thick on the large rocks I fuck with.

from what I've studied. its a low quality form of coral agate. I find pic-related all the time in the big ass rocks I go smashing. but normally they are pretty small, no more then 10mms wide most of the time. I've got enough large rock to smash on, that solo, I don't think ill ever finish breaking them all into smaller pieces in my lifetime. imo, there was/is a chert mine in Tampa. [or south?] I forget, it was opened up and allowed to flood, its now a bay. so my guess closer you are to Tampa the more likely you'll find these stones naturally accruing. I live right on the bottom edge of the Ocala rift.

Looks like fossilized coral
>>
>>752287
Between Ocala and Mt. Dora.

Why do I have to be sneaky? Will the constable come after me?
>>
>>752448
Nah, when they built some roadways in Florida long time ago, they used the rubble from that chert mine. for erosion reasons. well that rubble has these types of rocks still embedded. you're basically under bridges/underpasses smashing these rocks. technically you're not suppose to be doing this... and is somewhat illegal. so yeah the constable might come for you if caught!
