Waterproof and windproof rain jackets?

The Ex Officio Rain Logic is the best jacket I've ever owned. What jacket does /out/ wear innawoods?

Thinking of coming /out/.
What are you're thoughts on this coat; I've been told it's best to layer, have minimal padding in your outer layer, and wanted to know if you thought it looked liked it was to much.

I have a cheap fleece for warmth and a berghaus rain jacket for rain protecction. The rainjacket is very light, less than 200 grams. In case i have my backpack, i bring a poncho instead, it protects everything and is a small tarp as well.

I forgot the name of the berghaus jacket, but the poncho is named wäfo monsun.

Suede racing jacket I got from a mexican thrift store for 5 bucks.

I throw a plastic walmart poncho over it when it rains. Usually wear a long sleeve shirt under, layer a fleece sweater when it's cold, more shirts as needed.

>wearing expensive shit outdoors
Why
>>
I recently got a Fjallraven g1000 and I'm pretty happy with it I need to wax it though
>>
I have a water resistant jacket, it the rain gets really heavy I have a poncho.

Layering is key. I use an Arc'teryx Squamish against wind and (very) light precipitation, a down puffy for warmth, and a very light Stormberg rain jacket if it pours.

Hiking hard in *tex is fucking unbearably stuffy.

Shell jackets are awesome for walking to work, though..

Patagonia Torrentshell pullover. Bought it yesterday. Like it so far.

G1000 is super tough but far from waterproof. Even heavily waxed it just repels water a little.

is this thing worth it? 35 eur unused here
>>
Snagged a Patagonia Torrentshell on clearance for $64. Insanely packable, waterproof and windproof. I wore it today with no insulating layers in heavy gusting rain, about 45F, and i was fine.
>>
Arcteryx beta LT

Was fucking expensive but it's worked perfectly since I've had it. Bone dry even after absolute buckets of rain getting dumped on me, and it's pretty damn packable. I like it a lot and feel like it's worth the price

wind, light rain = patagonia houdini
rain = marmot precip

want to upgrade the rain jacket soon with something lighter, dream rain jacket would be the special edition outdoor research helium 2 they did that had pit zips. not sure if i'd spring for it without them.

houdini is a god damn godsend a+ piece of gear, for serious /out/ and casual wear. weighs nothing, takes up no space, blocks wind, handles rain for about 2 hours. unless rain is forecasted i only bring the houdini.
>>
>>714787
I have the houdini and it's great. But I think if I was to do it again I'd get the Alpine houdini instead. Little bit heavier but also more rain resistant.
>>
>>714787

Fuck the houdini, OR Ferrosi jacket 4 lyf3 yo!

The helium, you are just gonna shed maybe an ounce. Maybe you ought to look at the Revel or Foray jacket fucking awesome pit zips!
>>

Oh noes, did someone drink the Art'teryx kool-aid?

Shut up, fool. Arc'teryx make nice jackets. The Squamish is the best windshell in the world, rivaled only by the Patagonia Houdini, which was fucking impossible to get where I live. Found my Squamish on 40% sale, ended up a steal. Soooo happy with it! Especially the hood is fucking awesome, best cinching action on any jacket I have ever owned. It's sliiiightly heavier than the houdini, but supposedly less clammy (or so the Internet says)..

Worth every penny, on sale.

Now, the shells from Arc'teryx, that's another story, and I will completely agree they are ridiculously overpriced. Also, they are heavy and stuffy, and definitely not my cup of tea even if they had been cheap.

Pic my rain jacket, Stormberg Dovreheia: lightweight, highly packable and insanely visible for emergencies..
>>
>>715804

All their stuff is ridiculously expensive, unless you can find them for at least 40% or more. OR, some Patagonia (their quality control has been waning the last year), MHW, REI, Stoic, Exoficcio, Marmot, Cloudveil, Montbell and many others are just as good inf not better than art'teryx.

Only reason I own anything arc'teryx that my girlfriend bought me one that was 60% off sale at an REI and she wanted matching jackets. Atom LT hoody. They are nice for $115 but not $250 nice!
>>
>>715637
Yes this.

Marmot Precip is the business. Only step up if I know I will be in a monsoon or out fishing in rough sea, then it is a Helly Hansen rubber suit which sucks but less than turning into an ice popsicle.
>>
I mostly wear my Marmot ROM soft-shell. It's not fully waterproof, but it's very water resistant and it breathes and moves better than my precip hardshell, which I really only break out when I'm expecting heavy rain.

Soft-shell jacket/pants is also a good combo for Spring skiing.
>>
>>714122
+1 for the torrentshell
It's great at keeping wind out and heat in.
Also pit zips.
>>
I'm actually considering getting a cloak. Fuck what people think, there's a reason people used them for thousands of years.
