To all anons that was telling me not to buy telescope, fuck you. This is best thing i've ever had

Looks fun to play with when you're all stoned. Why would anybody tell you not to get it?
>>
>>711360
arguments were
>you will get bored really fast
>there is nothing more to discover and thats so false in poland one guy discovered 10 supernovas in 2 years so yeah
>>
Can you legit see galaxies and nebulas and shit like that with these things?
I used to have (a really cheap) one as a kid and did get bored of it kinda fast since all i could see were slightly magnified white dots.
>>
>had a telescope as a kid
>was awesome
>want a bitchin telescope as a man
>to poor to stargaze

Fuggin jelly.
>>
>>711439
Much projection in those replies. Fuck'em.

I wish I had a really good telescope ($1k range). Too much computer use has ruined my eyes. I used to be able to lay int he grass and see satellites floating by and billions of stars. Now everything is a blur and light pollution creeps every closer.

I have a really terrible one I bought used for $50.

But, I was able to get these pics in 2008 with my digital camera through it (very difficult without adapters and shit).
>>
>>711358
Who told you not to? What a fucking idiot, telescopes are awesome. Binoculars too.

7x30 and 10x50 binos here, and 6" Schmidt-Newt with an assortment of Meade's 82ยบ EP's... Shit is so cash.

>Can you legit see galaxies and nebulas and shit like that with these things?

If you pay good money for one, yes.

under darker sky than mine i could also see brighter galaxies and nebulas. Today i was able to spot m42, i know its really bright but still. There are lamps everywhere and weather was not so great.
For information i have bresser messier 152/1200 achromatic refractor :3
>>
>>711447
You can see on the wild without one but
>light pollution
Jesus how I hate the glow cities make.
>>
>>711358
How much did that run btw?

>>711454
That looks cool. I always wanted a fat one like that when I was younger. Had a regular one for awhile that was probably some $100 deal but it was kinda useless for anything besides checking out a full moon. Mostly because Chicago light pollution.

I never knew the Milky Way was a real thing you could actually see until the moving truck broke down in the middle of nowhere on the Turnpike at 4am. If I had a telescope here, I couple probably see some cool shit. There's definitely light pollution, but looking to the east over the ocean, it isn't too bad. And I could drive half an hour straight west and be in the Everglades with nothing around.

New would cost around 860 euroshekels

>>
>>711358

M42 was the first nebula I ever found, nearly by accident and will probably always be my favorite. I'm more of a planet fag though, almost wet myself the first time I found Jupiter because I didn't know you could actually see detail beyond it looking like a star.

Using a 200/1000 reflector myself, bought it for a family Christmas present this year but I'm the only one that knows how to set it up and find shit. Really fucking stoked to see Saturn for the first time when we get a clear morning here.

You nerds should look into mirror grinding. It seems like a fun and rewarding project.

Why refractor though?
>>
>>714062
I'd take a weekend class or join a regular telescope club any day. But to attempt that alone? Seems like a lousy way to waste a few days on making glass dust.
>>
My brother has a fancy one we could see the rings and moons of Jupiter with it shit was crazy.
>>
>>714290
Do you happen to know the name of it? I'd love to know if you'd be so kind
>>
>>714302
I don't know off the top of my head but I've asked him so i will post a reply here tomorrow if you check back then.
>>
>>714302
Telescopes don't work like binoculars. You don't have an Nx magnification. It depends on what you want to see. You can gain magnification by sacrificing luminance simply by switching out the ocular.

A decent reflector will serve you well in most situations. All the large telescope are reflectors. And you can get a decent Cassegrain set for well under $1k. Dobsons are so simple, you can make one yourself. They collect much more light than refractors, and you won't have to worry about chromatic aberration..

idk i think im just more into glass, and i had really cool deal on that.

I saw Ganymede's shadow cast on Jupiter with my 5.1" reflector. It's not a big telescope but you can still see plenty of objects.

I'm gonna upgrade to a 8" soon.

I used a Firefox canonical 45 on a standard Lenovo setup and aimed it at http://www.orionoptics.co.uk/imagegallery.html for several hours on a clear night earlier this month, elevation 300m, Northern hemisphere, little scattering from the moon.

damn, nice filtering. was thinking of getting a 10" schmidt-cass but i'm not sure I want to pay that right now, haven't taken out my old 6" reflector in almost 3 years and i'm kind of sad it's not bringing me the pleasure it used too

I just do all of the set up and finding. Then call people out to look at cool shit. I wasn't even the one who wanted it, I just got invested in it when I bought it. Now they want a bigger/computerized scope.
