i can recommend PENTAX. i bought a used 80€ glass for 16€ ...found it at ebay.

pentax use very good prisms and twilight factors for their products.

i use the UCF R 10x21. its very compact. good for spotting, starwars design.

talking about second hand stuff, why are old soviet era binoculars more expensive than the new ones like in OPs pic? old soviet stuff doesn't even need to have good specs, they still cost more?

/p/hotographer here. FYI Ken Rockwell is a complete idiot. Half the time he just makes shit up to get page views to buy more lenses so you can't trust anything he writes. His "about" page even used to say as much.

Some people fetishize that junk. Also modern optics are in general both a lot better and a lot cheaper than in the past due to a combination of better technology and offshore slave labor.
