>Remember your adventures

Do you like to taking pictures when you're hiking/outdoors?

Taking pictures takes me out of the moment. It kinda feels inauthentic; like the awkwardness of taking a selfie.
I'd rather just enjoy the moment and scenery and move on. If it was good I'll remember it and if not it's probably not worth taking a picture off anyway.

What are some other ways to capture a moment? I'm thinking about keeping a travel log and bringing my sketchbook.

I'm gonna be taking a huge trip in a few months and I'm gonna be using a gopro with a chest cam and a lot of batteries and recycling sd cards. That way I get to experience everything first hand, but still get to take everything with me.

ah the ae-1 program. a classic. I do some mild wildlife photography. sometimes camp setups and such or interesting things I come across. I rarely have done a self photo and none of my friends are really very good photographers.

>Taking pictures takes me out of the moment. It kinda feels inauthentic

I know the feeling. One thing that really helps is limiting (or limiting entirely) your "chimping".

That is - Taking a photo and immediately looking at the LCD screen. Inevitably this makes you disappointed and take another and the cycle repeats.

Learn about exposure, then disable automatic LCD reviewing in the menu. Makes it much mor enjoyable and "in the moment man" etc
>>
>>704384
I like looking at nature pictures so i figure "why not take my own?". Taking pics doesnt take me out of the moment, sometimes it helps me uncover more beauty in the subject of my shot.
>>
I enjoy having my phone with me for the occasions I would like to have a camera. I don't do selfies, I grab a stranger to take a pic for me. Nice to have something to carry with you as a reminder that you did that and it's nice to have something to send to mom to let her know you're alive.
I could kill some of the people on my social media who spend their time /out/ taking selfies as a way of validating their experience through their "friends".

>>704430
Sounds like a huge burden but w/e makes you happy.
>>
To add to what I just said, there is almost no photo you can take that you can't find a better quality one with Google.

I had maybe a dozen photos after a month on the AT. Almost everyone one was a picture of me at a sign saying where I was at so I could keep the family up to date.
>>
OP, why do you feel the need for photos or a log?

I don't take pics of me or the things I'm doing while /out/, normally. I take pics of /diy/ projects and for /out/ I take macro photos of insects. I really can't wait for summer. I can literally spend all damn day in a random field taking pics of things I can barely see.

I really love landscape photography and I post mine all over the internet. I go hiking and photograph every good landscape I see. I truly love the beauty of the earth and the state I live in.

Sometimes I wish I didn't do photography and just hiked for the sake of hiking, but I always worry I'll miss a good photo.

I like taking photos of the little things on my trips. I'll stop to appreciate a flower or an insect, appreciate how the light comes through the trees, how a stream winds down the side of mountain. Taking a phot helps me capture that moment of serenity that I have when I do those things, so later, when I can't go out and do it, I can at least have a memory of when I could.

this.
taking photos is fun.

I think those analog plastic cameras are very nice because they are small, lightweight (pic is 170g), easy to use and the quality of the prints is great.
Having prints is also great and more special for conserving/sharing memories.
>>
>>704384
I thought that for a long time. If I'm hiking, I'll carry a little point and shoot with me if I see something really spectacular and pictureworthy. I just drove around the US for 6 months, so I bought a decent DSLR for the trip since I'd be hitting so many national parks. I used the DSLR to pull off on scenic overlooks and short little trails and take pictures then, but it's kinda bulky and a pain to carry on a hike more than 2 or 3 miles. Especially if you want to carry multiple lenses. I was really happy I took so many pictures though, and some turned out fantastic. But most of the time it was me just popping off on the side of the road and shooting a few pics, nothing way in the back woods. I'm still a little conflicted with the photography thing desu.

I'm not sure if I'd enjoy bringing my good camera way /out/ with me or not. I could take far superior pictures, but the weight and stopping every so often to take random pictures when I'm actually out and enjoying things doesn't quite feel right. I do love looking back at my pictures though if I'm frustrated or sick of living in the city. Makes me yearn to go back out on the road. Leaving in 2 days, giggity!
>>
Rarely. Being a bit of a hippy at heart I think there's something inherently flawed with pictures, something fake and inauthentic about it. If can't be there at the time, forget it.

Tips on stalking up on Red deer for photography?
>>
>>705910
I've never done this kind of photography but I'm curious. I was thinking about this:
>learn their habits; where do they feed?
>cover your human smell
>cover your texture with camouflage
>go against the wind
>be quiet
>be patient
>become red deer?

what focal length do you use?
>>
It's what I do for a job so yeah.

>>705096
>camera is lightweight
>carry 1kg of film
For a project I did exactly that, went for a two-week hike with nothing but an instant camera and twenty-five rolls. Was fun. I don't shoot film that often anymore and I miss it, but I don't miss the hassle of fuckheavy bodies and lenses and a separate pack for all the film. Or only as nostalgia.

Analog doesn't mean "not digital", it means a continuously variable electrical signal.

Videotape is analog. The Olympus V100 was analog. Film is film.

Nah it's in Utah, near Escalante. Spooky Gulch, Brimstone Gulch and Peekaboo Gulch are all very close to each other.

This was the best little hike I've ever been on. It was amazing exploring those little canyons. I'd go back just for that. At one point in spooky gulch it got very fucking scary - we had to jump down a ledge into a dark gap between two boulders. In hindsight, it was a fucking stupid risk to take. Still fun tho.

nice, man. it's hard to balance decent detail in the night sky with the foreground. what settings are you using? (and camera and lens too if you don't mind)

also looks like you're in the UK? whereabouts? I'm in Herts

Cheers dude.

I'm in the Glasgow area. I shoot Fuji X system now. Switched from Nikon a while back, occasionally miss an OVF, and definately miss weather sealing. But then the Fuji lenses are amazing.

Settings for that particular shot were something like ISO 200, F/2, 20 sec. I shoot raw, which let me push the sky a little bit to make it pop (you can see my lazy brushwork if you look at the transition between sky and tree boughs)

No hardly any. Ben Lomond and a couple of the surrounding ones. Will be doing Ben Nevis in May. Funds have been tight and not been able to get out as much as I've wanted to, but new job now so this Summer should be good.

I'm aware that Imgur.com will stop allowing adult images since 15th of May. I'm taking actions to backup as much data as possible.
