I live in the northeast us. We mostly just care about making it through winter. I have the ole '65 Ariens for a snowblower and the ole '71 Cub Cadet 100 for a plow and secondary blower. 7000W generator for the hwh, well pump, etc. Wood stove burns all winter. I've got a Ryobi 2000W I bought several years back for $550 from Homey Despot and the first time I ran it, the oil drain plug vibrated out as it hadn't be tightened enough and the generator automatically shut down but other then that, it's worked fine the two times I've had to use it since then.

I would suggest that no matter which brand of generator you get, install a three-way petcock on the fuel line, so you can easily drain any remaining gasoline before storing it.
