It's definitely a cucurbit, like cucumber, squash or watermelon. Domestic cucurbits are bred to have low levels of toxicity but wild varieties may have higher levels of cucurbitacin, which causes severe abdominal distress.

The seeds for these are sold here in the UK as cucamelon. The marketing says they combine the taste of a cucumber and a melon. They are basically small, crunchy cucumbers. I have grown them for the last few years, make a tasty little snack.
