Not sure if this is the right board, but /an/ doesn't seem to do anything related to nature and /sci/ is worthless.
Found these two rocks in a clay bed while clearing flood debris out of my creek today and was hoping someone could tell me what they are. I'm pretty sure the brass colored one is pyrite, but the green one has me stumped.
Also general found while out thread.

Better pic of the pyrite.

Better pic of the green rock.

Looks like obsidian
>>1093035
the green is smelter slag.
The other could be pyrite or marcasite or chalcopyrite. Hard to say.

It's quartz technically

I don't think it's smelter slag, the nearest mill is over two hours from here. I guess it's possible, but the creek comes off a lake 5 miles from here so I don't know how it would get way out here and buried so deep.
The brass rock sparks when I hit it on a file which is why I think it's pyrite. Don't know if that helps any.
Also built a crude rock separator and found a bunch of small silver colored rocks that look like metal, pictures coming as soon as they dry so I can get them out of the tile.

actually the brass one is a casing of a .22
OP wipe the grease off your damn camera
It's hard to say; looks like you actually have two materials mated with each other.
The irregular breaks on the dark upper part look like obsidian to me. Where in the world are you located?

Dragonglass isn't the only thing that has conchoidal fractures.

Sorry, my phone took a fall and now the camera is fucked. I'm from Indiana though if that helps.

Hello, fellow Hoosieranon! Sorry I can't help with your rocks, but maybe you'd like a hiking buddy. Where in IN you at? Putnam county here.

I'm from Lake, but spend most of my time in Tippecanoe for school. I appreciate the offer, but I rarely get /out/ during the school year so it probably won't work out.
Here's a rock I found in Lake Superior

The green stuff looks like olivine, I'd say the rock is a dunite, a plutonic rock, do you have more pics?
>>1093533
