Can you get away with tarp camping this time of the year in the Pyrenees? My fucking tent weights fucking 3kg+, and I can't spend 200€ on one right now.
I either go /out/ with whatever gear I have or spend money buying new gear and wait until next summer to have a week long trip. Pls respond thanks.

yes, but bring a warm enough sleeping bag and bivi hull
>>
>>1085171
I should say so, I just got back from hiking the GR11 and apart from in the Basque region and maybe three thunder storms the nights were dry. There are also loads of places to set up a good sheltered tarp. One of the guys I walked with for a bit was just using a poncho tarp and bivi. Just keep an eye on the clouds and pick your spots accordingly.

There is also a fair chance you could wake up to this.
>>
>>1085173
My sleeping bag ain't too warm but that's something I have planned to upgrade. I don't own a bivy hull tho.

>>1085174
Any other advice? How are the first 150km starting from Irun?

They are ok. But it was the wettest, foggiest stretch. Personally I think the stretch between Isaba and Andorra was the best. If you can walk any of those etaps it'll be great. To be honest I wouldn't go all that way to walk just the start or the end. I only walked them as I wanted to thru hike it. This is what a lot of the Basque region was like...

Where as this is what the middle section was more like... Feel free to ask about any specific sections, I should have a photo for it!

Cool pic. Is the trail well signalized? How many day took you to thru hike it?

Yeah the trail is well way marked. There are some confusing sections though and when the fog is thick a GPS is a god send. I just used Gaia on my phone. I completed it in 29 days. But unless you are fit, used to walking far in the mountains and have a light bag I would say >30 days is more realistic. 20 miles in the high mountains will include climbing ~3000m and descending the same.
>>
>>1085184
Got any pics of the Pyrenees near the Mediterranean ?
>>
>>1085186
Impressive, anon. Many people on the trail? Also did you go solo?
Last question, what about resupplies, how did you managed that?

Yeee I'll post one now, but got to pop to the shops then I can dump some more. It's _much_ hotter down there and there is more road walking. If you were going to walk the Med side I would make sure you get to walk between Nuria and Setcases as this was the best bit after Andorra.
>>1085192
Above 2000m it was quieter and everyone you meet is cool. In the lower/tourist trap section it was very much a case of putting on headphones and blasting as fast as possible. I went solo. Meet two people in the first 2 days and walked them for ~10 days but they weren't thru hiking it. After that I was alone till the end but did stop and chat to people. Resupply was easy the most food I had to carry was 3 days worth. Just ate crap from small super markets and the odd meal at a mountain refuge. A lot of cheese, ham, bread, chocolate and biscuits. In total I speant around 800 euros, I could have speant less but it would have required discipline as it's hard to turn down a plate of fried eggs, ham, and bread when you happen to hit a refuge at lunch time.

Back later.

Thanks for the pic, I'll be checking the thread later for some more
I don't really have any plan to hike the GR 11 or GR 10 right now but I live in the French side about 2h away from the range
I like the Pyrenees but after a winter in the Alps I'm looking for something a bit different than "just" high mountains and the Mediterranean influence seems to produce different landscapes

I can't speak much about the full potential of the Med side of the mountains as the GR11, I am comfortable in assuming, doesn't pass through the best parts of that region. If you wanted to explore round there I would look at making your own route and not walking that portion of the GR11.
>after a winter in the Alps I'm looking for something a bit different than "just" high mountains
I walked with a Swiss guy for a while, so he knew the Alps pretty well, and he really enjoyed the high mountains of the Pyrenees saying they had a different feel and were much quieter. They are different range with a different culture so don't write them off.

Just gonna dump the few shots that I liked from the Eastern section of the GR11, to be honest I didn't find it very interesting so I powered through it and took few pics.

This is the trekkertent stealth 1. It's the 70D version. The outer weighs 440g and the bath tub floor weighs 230g. So 670g in total. I got it second hand for £80, it came with a bug net inner but I don't like nets. The tub cost my £40. Brand new the inner and the outer cost around £180. You get the outer in a 30D silnylon so it's lighter. I set it up with my trekking poles.
I am about to start playing with a tarp and polycro set up which will be lighter and I am hoping more fun!
My bag is the ULA CDT which I think in total has like 52L. But the main body is like 32L and the pockets make up the rest. Their site has the numbers

Woww, man, that's light. Looking at it I'm starting to realize that I probably do need to upgrade my gear as a priority rather than roughing it with poor stuff.

It's a super great tent for the price. I can't think of anything that comes close to the price to weight ratio. Big wait time though as trekkertent is a small company.
>>/out/ related jobs
Got a head for heights? Train up as a tree surgeon? If your county has an arb industry. Took my three months. Sure it took a bit longer, you have to get into the industry and work up to a well paid climbing position. But it only took my a year and a bit to blag my way into a decent position. Now I am nearly 4 years and making good money. Plus it's a fairly chill industry. No one bats an eye lid when I quit to go and hike for a couple of months. I've always worked hard and caused no drama so companies are pretty quick to hire me again when I am back. I've secured a job the day after I got back from the GR11.
>>
>>1085516
I've applied to a couple jobs asking for an helper(not the right word but pretty much the same) of chainsaw worker but didn't got luck. In my country I will not make great money regardless but I'm not a big spender either. I'm just trying to find something /out/ related that I could enjoy.
>>
>>1085537
Yeah the tree biz here is a bit of a qualification mine field so people who aren't trained are really no use. It sounds like a pretty country specific situation so I can't give much advice!
>>
>>1085540
It's all good, anon. Btw thanks for answering the thread.
