Hey /out/ I'm going hiking with a friend up by tonopah Nevada. I'm not local to the area (I'm from PA) so I don't know the local fauna. Are there any predators worth worrying about out in Nevada that would justify me bringing my handgun?
>>
I'm. It local but been out here in Nevada a few months camping and backpacking for work. There are bears but I've yet to see one, other than that not much dangerous. It's an open carry staton though so fuck it bring your gun. If nothing else go blast shit on blm land for keks.
>>
Nah I wouldn't worry too much about having a gun
>>
I guess you could shoot a path in through the sagebrush to keep your delicate legs safe.

Thanks, anon. Wasn't sure how prevelant mountain lions and other dangerous predators were.

There are plenty of mountain lions. Unless you're bathing in deer guts, and even then, there's no reason to worry about them.

Shieeet me too. I was just in Tonopah a few weeks ago. Didn't see any critters except for some rabbits and a snek in the cemetery next to that creepy fucking clown motel

It's better to have it and not need it. Check out Alta Toquima Arc Dome, great hike, beautiful country. Belmont, Jefferson Peak, Pine Creek campground.
>>
Also, there's a clown motel in Tonopah. Post pics.

Well first off the area around Tonopah looks nothing like that, its all high desert and vegetation is pretty sparse until you get pretty high up in the mountain ranges and Pinyon pine forests. I've 4x4'd and explored the mines and ghost towns around Tonopah extensively, never had a handgun and never needed one, certainly not for wildlife. Rattlesnakes would be your biggest concern, and I've never seen any on my many hikes. Even then you don't need a gun to shoot one, just walk away.

Pic related is the terrain surrounding Lone Mountain, a prominent peak near Tonopah. As you can see, not much vegetation or wildlife.
