So, i just got this house, and I'm waiting for the fumigation tent to go down before moving in. I have the keys 'n shit, including the one to the back yard. Keep in mind that this house is mine, and anything the previous owners left is my responsibility to remove/maintain.
That being said, I took the time out of my day to scope out my backyard. And what i found was. . . Kinda disgusting. . .
These people had left alot of scrap wood, metal, and a shit ton of cacti and succulents. Like, Jesus Christ they must have been selling them or something. it looked like it was a nursery.
So I was thinking, since they didn't have real grass in their back yard, should I just clean out all the plants, and make it into a normal backyard, or just clean it up and embrace a desert aesthetic?
Sorry for vertical bullshit, wasn't thinking of 4chins at the time, I was just sending these to a buddy.
This cactus is my favorite. He's definitely staying
His name shall be Jim

If it were me, I'd put in some cedar raised beds for veggies. Since the yard is already torn to shit, This would be a good time to lay down some gridwork for water distribution.
Desert aesthetic with your own personal garden oasis in the corner
Remove all the fucking junk that you can, and try to grow or place grass.
Some fruit trees (or any nice trees for shade), and veggies would be great. You could even keep a few chickens if you don't have neighbors around.

>grass
Fruits, veggies, even chicken, hell yeah, but grass? Grass is so fucking useless... why spend all that time and effort maintaining something that does nothing but cost time and money?

Grass grows roots, grass roots keep soil in place. Keep in mind, the dustbowl started from loose topsoil getting dried out and then kicked in to a big ass dust storm.

There can be rooted plants that are more useful than grass though. I wasn't suggesting that he monoculture corn and leave a barren wasteland every third year.

That's aloe vera on the left there. See if you can nourish that thing back to health and plant it. That stuff is heavenly for sunburns.
