Where is it legal to start a campfire?
I have some woods in my backyard that connect to a public hiking trail deep in the forest. Is it okay to start a campfire there? Do I need a permit? How do I check my local laws in this specific area?
Upper NY state by the way.
If you're not sure, contact your local city hall and ask them. Generally, you're probably fine making a campfire in your backyard as long as it's not a raging inferno, or you aren't burning chemically treated wood, trash, or leaves. Odds are, unless you're next to a national forest, you can't legally make a fire in the public woods, and either way, they won't like you burning anything anywhere near the trail.

is probably what a good portion of /out/ would say, but I would say there is a time and a place for civil disobedience, but burning ordinances are not really the right time or place.
Don't damage any twigs while yet out. I recycle
