Hey there /out/,
Armyfag here, about to go back on leave to northern California in the next week or so and looking to do some solo camping by myself for a day or two. I was thinking about a few spots, but one place that stuck out to me was Desolation Wilderness, what are your experiences with it? I am mostly looking for decent views and sights but don't have too much experience with the parks and areas surrounding Sacramento outside of Lake Tahoe, is Desolation Wilderness worth it or should I go poke around a few other spots?

It's definitely worth it.
Before you really get into planning look into what the snow levels are at right now. I haven't been able to get away from work this summer so I'm not sure how much of this winter's mass dump of the stuff has melted off so far.

What this anon said
I was there in 11, which was a year similar to this one as far as rain goes
We went in August and it was like going in June
There was still snow at 8000 ft
There were also tons of mosquitoes
This years snowpack is supposed to be melting faster than in 11, but I'd check the particular route before going
