Thank you for supporting ne /out/.
Greetings from a forest on the Soutern Upland Way.
Alright, cool. I have no clue who you are, but cool.
that's a cozy little camp you got there OP. pic unrelated.
>>1049932
yikes, try not to set tree roots on fire. maybe use a stove/line your campfire with rocks next time
also, usually not the best idea to cook food in a can; most are plastic lined these days.
presuming you're not in bear country? don't cook where you sleep if you wanna avoid night-time run-ins. raccoons and rats too.
>>1049932
>increasing your daily intake of plastic-leached chemicals by cooking in the can
>>1049932
50 day anon?
>>1050186
Do you know this guy? I'm a bit of a newfriend, so I'm not familiar with all of /out/'s characters.

>>1050662
you've already beat my expectations. have fun. :)
>>1049932
Whoa, you actually put together a decent camp despite all the bullshit advice from this board? Bravo.
Keep an eye out for Kists containing weymerks.
Enjoy the journey and post more pics along the way!
>>1051050
I was looking around for that. Online it said that there should be a kist every stage but I'm starting the third today and I haven't seen a kist yet.
Maybe they took them away.

Scythes are not even made like that and aren't good melee weapons.
>>1053282
Sure, nothing to worry about, just ask the OP.
OP?
>>1050173
It's cooked in the can when they can it, you're not going to get any more omg scary plastic by heating it back up in the can.
>>1053282
Thanks lindybeige nobody gives a fuck
BTW you will never get laid, even at swing camps

this isn't the wikipedia reference desk either
The great thing about the SU way is that you can go a solid day without seeing someone because it's not as popular as the highlands or the west isles. So you might not see Glen Coe but the solitude is great. Galloway forest is one of the darkest places in Europe and a dark sky park. However, a lot of the forest has the hand of man on it with the forestry etc.

Likely replanted by humans. Beyond what you wrote, the spacing between trees is completely uniform
>>1055138
That word you used is racist, better delete your post before your government deletes you

>Obviously a plantation. The Soutern Uplands are full of them.
But the UK /out/tists told me they were wild camping, and that the highlands were totally wild and completely natural
>>1049932
Hey Anon hope your hike is going well; where in Scotland are you located?
Bong here from Lincolnshire; envious of you.

>>1055497
The highlands are. Not the uplands.

No they are not

OP here.
Well, I guess in some way some of you were right. My preparation was bad and after 140 KM I am giving up. Here is the deal, after a while the trail went from hills and fields to swamp.
Literal boggy, moorland, swamp. Anyway, my Meindl's aren't made for that and after walking 40 KM through swamp the last three days I had to give up. My feet were bloated and hurt like hell.
I am back in Holland now and obviously I feel really bad about not completing the trail. In a couple of days, when my feet are better I'll start arranging my new trip. In a couple of weeks I'll be doing the Tour de Mont Blanc. It's 170 KM and has zero swamp.
Anyway, I've learned a lot.. here are some pictures.
A trail marker being swallowed by moorland
If there is one thing I have learned this trip it's that you're going to feel every pound. Literally every pound eventually will hurt your back.
My back was only 30 pounds but goddamn at times it felt like a ton.
That's all folks.
I'll be sure to post some pictures of the Tour de Mont Blanc. I'm sure the Alps are even prettier than Scotland.
>>1057653
Awesome, where did you reach? What area did you encounter the bog, and what was your favourite section? I'm surprised you chose southern upland way as it's not as popular or famous as the rest of Scotland (relatively unknown). Seems like a great learning experience though
T. Someone who lives there
>>1050173
Slit your throat.
>>1057643
Don't worry about it anon! The first long distance trail I tried did no go well. I then went back to try to complete it and realised it was a shit route and that completing for the sake of completing it was dumb. I don't want to mindlessly force myself to complete a trail if I am not enjoying it. Learn you lessons, walk as much as you want and remember to have fun!
>>1057651
Also don't forget that a pound on your feet is like five on your back!
>>1057643
You did good anon. Live and learn.
What was the problem with the swamp? If the shoes became wet inside, waterproof gaiters are good to have for such occasions. They can also be removed quite easily. (I use those during early spring/late autumn/winter)
Also, are you sure your shoes are the right size?
>>1057643
Congrats Anon, you went out and you gave it a shot. Feel proud of what you've accomplished.
