You lose a decent amount of bone due to both the trauma of tooth extraction and the lose of teeth in general but it heals over pretty good after a while.

Also there are standard plastic cases, you can cut some plastic foam in shape of the denture and put the foam in the case to prevent the denture rattling inside. Or you could buy a mouth guard case, those look sturdy and lower profile.
