can we have a rope/knot thread? i dont know about you guys but fucking love how much you can utilize a piece of rope with just a few good knots in your arsenal.
cordage general?

ahh, the symmetry
any knot requests? pic related is a "water bowline", less likely to jerk loose than a regular bowline
and now i wait for the what i can only assume are thousands of other /out/ knot-lovers to flood this thread

I used to study marlinspike work some years ago. It's insane the amount of work that goes into it.
>>1034306
i bet that is super interesting, did you just study it for fun? can you make eyes and splice ropes and stuff?
Clove hitch, bowline(including running bowline here), killick hitch, and prusik. You can do almost anything with those knots.

Figure of 8 is pretty cool

It was just for fun. I could make just about anything in the end. I even got to do a little work on some museum ships recreating old work. Was really fun.

>tfw ring finger cant make it to step one
>>1034408
id like to add the adjustable grip hitch(wayy better than taught-line), two half hitches, and the trucker's hitch
Just got this. Waiting to get some dyneema so I can rig up eye splices
>>1034813
man for some reason ive never really looked into splicing but you guys are piquing my interest. pic related is what got me re-interested in knots. i just like hanging out with some rope tying and untying shit
>>1034828

I am just a sailor who would rather be able to splice myself instead of buying $20 premade splices. If you want to know more about knots look at ABOK. it talks about the historical reference of knots and has pretty good diagrams/instructions for tying them. being able to idly make a monkey's fist or daisy chain while having a conversation is pretty comfy
>>1034835
hell yeah, im going to check it out
>>1034835
ABOK is great but the diagrams are a bitch to follow some times. "The Marlinspike Sailor" is the go to for beginners though.
