Is the ocarina the most /out/ instrument?
Anyone bring an instrument when the go /out/?
>>1026259
Well, I make my own every spring. Pic very related. It's old czech tradition.
>>1026268
Bretty cool, any tips for hand carving one? Ive tried to make flutes in the past but have mostly failed.
Bike seats like that have been shown to cause impotence.
If you are a male and ride more than a few hours a month , you should look into it.
>>1026259
Neanderthal were pretty /out/, and at least one Neanderthal ever made a bone flute.

>4 (count 'em), FOUR knives, two of them butterfly
>Rifle only slightly larger than a BB gun
>Handgun for good measure
>And a motherfucking cordless electric saw
Holy kek, I hope this isn't your attempt at a bug-out bag.
>>1026708
Right, but what is it?
>>1026755
That edc looks like something my Cataclysm DDA characters would be carrying.
Turkey caller.
Put it in your mouth with the reed facing toward your tongue and do some weird stuff with your mouth I can only describe as making a tuh sound with your mouth half open and your tongue curled around it so air blows from the center of your tongue towards your lower lip.
You will sound like a clucking chicken and can do it with both hands free.
Kids in my middle school agriculture class would be chirping all the time in their classes.
You might even attract some wild animals doing it.

yeah but you have to be half goat to play it.
>>1026259
Bamboo flutes and Ukulele's are good to play and beat the shit out of possible assailants.
Travelling samurai used a kind of bamboo flute called a shakuhachi to play and for self-defense.

Knifes are a meme
>>1032762
That's really freakin' cool! Here's the million dollar question though. Can you play anon's happy floote on it?
>>1032762
Know of a good place i can get a good shakuhachi?

>>1032812
Not on my bamboo flute. I tuned it to play in an Arabic scale. Unfortunately this means I can only play traditional Arabic music. The upside Is I can charm snakes.
I included a sound sample with a bit of reverb
https://clyp.it/lnliotkc
>>1032852
You'd probably find something good on ebay. Just do some research first. Make sure its made from the thicker base of the bamboo and tuned well. These are similar to a club weapon. You also don't want to buy a wall hanger.
If not you can just look online for makers http://shakuhachisociety.eu/people/makers/
Often there is lists online of traditional makers for these kind of obscure instruments. Look for people in your country and ask them to make you one.
Below is an example of a thin shakuhachi unlike the one's carried by Samurai. http://www.mid-east.com/Wind/Shakuhachi
>>1027135
Where you get that ocarina also play anons happy floote with it.
>>1032883
The OoT one is from STL which is one of the few replicas that sound good, but i dont recommend it for beginners because it needs really good breath control for the higher notes.
The one that kind of looks like a scrotum is a Songbird Ocarina seedpod ocarina and is much easier to play and t sounds really good.
If you want an OoT ocarina then Songbird also has one that looks and plays better, but it costs more.
>>1032934
Jumps up really loudley hurt muh ears but I have over sensitive hearing so probably only end if your wondering how over sensitive? I can hear dog whistles and this sound emitter for when dogs bark :(
i bring a irish penny whistle. super light, i can play it well and sounds nice plus they are cheap and durable. i once brought a small bagpipe backpacking.

Any harp anons here? I want to get into the lyre but I have no idea what to look for when buying.
Any suggestions? Preferably in the $70-150 range

Befriend Zelda at a young age, grow up together, see her get kidnapped by spooky demon nonsense, find her and her guardian ninja innadesert on the surface world, save them, get harp, learn songs from the dragons and the sky whale, use it to gain entry to a tower built by the gods to test the hero, save the world from the demon king, but get cursed to eternally reincarnate to do battle with his spirit, thus saving the world and defeating ultimate evil literally infinite times until existence is over, but you STILL FAIL AT PLAYING BACKGROUND MUSIC FOR MUSIC NIGHT AT A BAR THAT ONLY SERVES PUMPKIN SOUP WHY DO PEOPLE EVEN COME HERE, WHY DO YOU HATE ME, KIIIIINNAAAAAAAA.
I feel like an acoustic guitar is perfect but as far as hiking goes it seems almost impossible to carry practically.
Any anons with experience on yhis?
>>1036525
You need a pack doge, just like my knoife doge.
>>1036542
Surprised you don't have a ciggy doge bebzy
>>1036543
I do have another one.
The smaller doge, he loves smokin weed. True story.
My Vargans (Essentially a vastly improved jews harp) but I take one of these harps everywhere with me anyway. Sometimes i'll take one of my ukulele's if I can be bothered
>>1032852
If you just want to get a feel for the instrument you can make a good sound one fairly easily out of pvc piping.
>>1026259
The thing I like the most when working in the forest or just wandering is the "choir" of birds desu
I remember hearing from a guy who apparently walked all over the Andes and the Himalayas carrying two tamtam drums, though.
>>1026369
Here's a video of an artist who made his own reconstruction with advise from archeologists , his flute seems to look a bit different because I believe there were some disputes about the length and number of holes. Some even said that the original flute is just a bone that an animal left its teeth marks in but I wouldn't pay any attention to that slander.

>>1026259
>not bringing field recording gear and a sampler
>>1026670
yeah, feels bad cause I want to get one because I like the sound but everyone would assume I'm some zelda autist
>>1043248
just get one if you want one. if somebody judges you because of some false premise, they're stupid and wrong. why limit your experience in life because of stupidity by proxy?
>>1043248
unless you ARE some zelda autist...but if you were, you wouldn't be self-aware enough to worry about people finding out about it...you'd buy and play that ocarina proudly. you're probably just a regular autist inventing excuses to limit your personal experiences.
>>1026259
should i honestly get one of these? looks cool
>>1043349
>>1043347
>>1043248
As a Zelda autist who is friends with another Zelda autist, nobody cares. My buddy would literally EDC one of those pendant ocarinas without anybody making comments other than "Oh neat, what's that thing?". Unless you regularly encounter college kids while /out/, nobody will even know what Zelda is.
>>1043367
They're great, just make sure you have somewhere you can be loud to practice.
>>1042730
This. Need a ton of batteries if you're out for a while though.
>>1036525
They make travel acoustics.
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Martin/Backpacker-25th-Anniversary-Acoustic-Guitar.gc
Otherwise there's plenty of cases with straps n shit you could rig to a backpack.
I wanna go on a trip and make some dark folky recordings with a buddy or 2 but we'd probably just end up turning one of our cabins into a shitty studio. The pains of being attached to gear.
Real talk
I love playing guitar
Tips for bringing one on an /out/ing?
>>1045927
backpacking guitars is a popular thing over the past 10 years. i don't have any experience with them, but check this to start:
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Travel-Mini-Acoustic-Guitars.gc
i have a friend i work with who bought a small acoustic that was around $60 that sounds pretty damn good. i don't know how well it stays in tune, though.
hey, harmonica bros. What do you guys play? I usually end up with incoherent snippets of touhou songs and the Yume Nikki Save screen. But with harmonicas, everything sounds all over the place to begin with
how do I get good?
>>1032762
That's an ugly ass flute. Buy one from alibaba or some shit, they are actually treated and processed much better. Also they come with membranes which are critical to the sound.
>>1046057
Oh sorry i didn't know you made it yourself. In that case it's fine I guess not everyone has access to Chinese bamboo forests.
