Thinking about hiking across Eurasia from Portugal to the Bering Strait. Thoughts?

I REALLY doubt the right third (or even right half) of this thoroughly researched track ever had any vehicle to ride on.

Hint: why do you think a ship or a plane is always mentioned when a trip to Kamchatka peninsula is discussed?

you want to go into iran and afghanistan?
i cant tell if youre crazy or just ignorant of geopolitics
>>
The region of Siberia I plan on going through is not heavily forested, so going off track won't be much of an issue on foot.

The area of Iran I plan on going through is probably the least religious places in the middle east. As for Afghanistan, their populations are very concentrated around rivers and other arable land. I can easily get supplies in a city and camp in the wilderness until I make it to Uzbekistan. If I decide its too dangerous, I can take a shortcut through Uzbekistan and avoid Afghanistan completely.
>>
nvm, shortcut through Turkmen not Uzbek

It will take you more than 6 months. I hope you like cold/snow. Picking up skis or dropping them off part way through would be more efficient.

Hey, in Blue Gender, they walked from Korea to Baikonur in like three episodes. nbd

walking through east ukraine? Not a good idea imo.
I would be interested to take long hikes, got more of jesus speed though.

I think I'm starting to understand why the average thread on /out/ is so incredibly low level and stupid.

You will die in the Pakistan area especially if you have no vehicle.

I am planning to do a similar route from Germany to China by bike and I am hoarding information for a few months now.

There are terrorist organizations in northern/western Pakistan that specializes in abduction and making the authorities pay for them. So I guess you understand that an easy target like you will get much attention there. You can't even cross Pakistan without armed escorts.

Just don't go there, the people don't want you there.

I am also struggling with this part of my route. Unfortunately there are no regular ferries from Iran to India so your best bet would be to take a cheap flight from Iran to India if you really want to take this route.

You always have the possibility to go north from Uzbekistan/Kazakhstan to China and then north of Tibet through China. But I wouldn't want to make this on feet. Civilization there can get quite rare and if you don't pack food for at least a week you will die.

And look into visa requirements. I heard that Russia can get difficult nowadays.
Why don't you enter Asia through Turkey? Try to stay in Europe as long as possible.

Also consider when to go. One of your biggest enemies is the weather. Think about how many kilometers per day you can make without hurrying too much and look at weather reports for different locations at different times on your route. It is not enjoyable to walk at -20°C through the snow in Russia and neither to sweat your ass off in India when it is 40°C.

It's certainly not impossible but it's about as tough as it's going to get.

Your man, what's his name, Christoph Rehage has walked a good bit China on the way to Berlin, I think he's got as far as Uzbekistan. Might be worth checking out his route if you haven't done so already.

I highly suggest you use google earth maps thing to look at a few spots in that far right area. There's no way I'd go there, especially on foot. Those last 3 exclamation point markers on that route especially. These are places you have to pack in literally all your fuel for making fire. I so suppose using a collapsible solar oven would work a great deal for saving fuel, but you can't use it at night. There isn't even dead grass in a lot of places.

>>1011249
Those have pretty strict itineraries. Like you are never allows out of X area or off X route. Go outside those and you are just chumming the waters.
>>
>>1010979
Adventure is one thing.
Being willfully ignorant of murderously dangerous situations and instigating diplomatic incidents for your home country just because you can't be bothered is another thing entirely.
Don't be a fucking idiot. Set yourself up for success.
Pay a little attention to the political shit that's going down in the countries you're about to travel through, because you WILL be affected.
Either way you're going to have the adventure of a lifetime. If you do it right, you'll be able to go on other adventures after this one.
>>
>>1011206
If you look at the map I posted I'm not going near Pakistan. The closest I will get is the Turkmen-Afghan border, if that. Afterwards I will be heading north of of the Tian Shan mountains instead of India. That area is not anywhere near as unpopulated as the desert just north of Tibet. Most of Turkey is in Asia, so going into Asia by way of Azerbaijan would be a longer time in Europe.
>>1011237
I saw this guy's first video, but didn't know he was doing it another trip. His path going just north of the mountains seems like mine, but we will go on different routs through China/Mongolia/Russia.
>>1011247
Not a Jew
>>1011258
My last three markers were not my exact path. I will stay near the coast. (Warmer and more small villages) I will need to go off trail in those parts, but there are no hard obstetrical other than the cold.

The last 500 miles or so will be extremely boggy, so I will either need to do that part in winter (bad idea), summer (bad idea), or finish further south near Anadyr to avoid most of the bogs.
>>1011474
Don't worry, I'm not retarded and I do my research.

Also guys, I'm now thinking that it would be better to start in Siberia and finish in Portugal, so I will have better gear and more control over timing for the hardest part. Europe is more temperate and friendly so if I arrive late or early or something goes wrong, it will not be as much of an issue.
>>
Hey OP, I have very similar plans, and all I can say is just fucking do it. I'll be using a bike (Surly Troll) and going throughout the Americas first, but I do plan on going through Afroeurasia (yes Africa) and I want this to be my life. I'll probably ditch/lose the bike after a while so I'll be walking as well.

How will you fund this? I'm a poorfag and a bit worried about keeping things up.
>>
>>1011757
The most expensive part of the trip should be getting to/from Europe/Siberia. (Probably 1500 min) A full set of decent gear will cost a few hundred. (cheaper used) For food you should get big bags of dry rice. You can get a 25 lb bag for $10, and that should last you at least a week. Plain rice gets boring after a while so be sure to bring spices. Giving yourself 2 lbs of dry rice per meal, for a year will cost about $800. This can make up a good portion of your diet hiking, but be sure to bring vitamins and nuts for whatever you cant get from rice.

All together a year long trip can cost under 4 grand if your smart with your money. The guy >>1011237 mentioned said his trip cost about $5,000, but I'm sure you can cut corners he didn't like staying in a tent instead of a hotel or eating cheaper food. If you don't have the money see if you can borrow it from your parents, siblings, or friend(s). Another tactic would be trying to get sponsors(?) saving money, or do a go fund me. Plenty of peeps will pay you to do all kinds of stuff. If none of the above work you can just put the trip on your credit card.

This guy has been bike touring Africa for years now. Maybe you'll find some useful info. I haven't read too much on his site.

>>
>>1011757
You will need to take a ferry to get from north to south america. There is a 60 mile stretch of swamps in Panama with no roads going through it called the Darién Gap.

Also, you claim to not post the gofundme here because it has personal information in it. Just wondering why you think its ok to put your personal info online in one place but not another. (Especial considering how no one will connect this gofundme with anything on 4chan other than this thread) Not saying its dumb to do so, just curious.
>>
>>1011474
This if you think you can immigrate on foot into Russia, let alone Afghanistan or China, then you are retarded. Trying to do that while also not speaking the local languages fluently is suicidal. That's not even getting to the fact that attempting to transverse every imaginable temperate biome on foot is nigh impossible. Ancient peoples didn't just walk from Africa all across Eurasia in one lifetime it took generations.
>>
>>1012305
The guy that inspired me to do it, Iohan Gueorguiev, 'just' paddled around it in the Atlantic.
(I highly recommend watching him; he began a bike tour from Alaska to Argentina in 2014 and is still going, updating steadily along the way https://www.youtube.com/user/istarusIG)
Posting personal information to a site like 4chan is incredibly stupid. Although nowhere on the internet is completely safe, I have a much lower chance of trouble just sharing my GoFundMe through family and friends.
