BMW was meh until the 2002 and 2xxx CS/CSL then they became an enthusiast favorite. Cool people bought them and then raved about them and then the normies bought them but weren't satisfied because it wasn't as luxurious or comfy as they thought. Then the brand starts catering to the people who will give them the most profit.
