Absolutely this. The old nose cone was a popular target for simple, affordable visual customization. Now you'd have to replace the entire bumper. Also the new one looks like it's simply missing something, it's not what you've come to expect a car to look like. it's not hard to design a grilleless car. hell, most supercars these days have no grille becqause most have the engine in the back. So it's not like designing a car without a grille in the gront is hard, even within regulations.

In FACT, if you took the pre-facelift Model S, and just painted the black fake grille red, and removed it's chrome trim, it would look pretty good.
