Why not shaft driven camshafts? It has all the benefits of gear driven camshafts but with less complexity

shaft is still derived from gear driven, and it exists.

ducati tried it in the 70's, saw 1 in person a few years ago. the guy put a glass cover on it so you could see the gears spinning.
