I always assumed the Toyota-based Lexus models had extra sound deadening, different suspension tune, more equipment etc.

The ES is built to a much higher standard than the Avalon. (ES has been based on Avalon since 2012.). The Avalon is nice and comfy too though.

The es is not a Camry anymore. But the above differences have applied since the es300 replaced the es250 in the early 90's.
