After World War 2, the American generation that fought in it, became classified as the greatest generation, and were very easily classifiable as a generation. the baby boom they produced after the war ended, became it's own easily classifiable generation, because they were mostly all born around the same time. From there, it became really easy to categorize the generations that succeeded the WW2 one, especially by national trends among the generational populace
You had the Greatest gen that fought and won WW2, the Baby Boom generation that they spawned, which became spoiled and self centered by their upbringing in an opulent childhood and rebelled against their parents in the late 60's and became hippies and protestors and progressives we know them as today. They spawned Generation X, when boomers had kids, and the generation is defined by broken families and parents who were often not that present. Sometimes called the latchkey generation for this.
And then Millennials, who are defined mostly by being Boomers second attempt at children, after their first marriages failed. They were raised in a mini economic boom brought on by the end of the cold war and the rise of the internet, and therefore, experienced a childhood very similar to the Boomers themselves, which, in addition to coming of age in the midst of the 2008 financial collapse, has resulted in them, much like their parents, becoming raging liberal neo-hippies.
Generation Z is the first generation to be born into a digital internet connected world, and so far, I dont think there's much settled science on them as a generation. Too many varying opinions.
TL;DR, WW2 defined the entire generation that fought in it, and since then, It became really easy to classify each successive generation, so we did.
>>17842343
Having immigrant-boomer parents, I've noticed generations outside of the US are usually behind by about a generation. My parents have more in common with Greatest Gen than Boomers
What I really long for are the huge barges of the 60's and 70's.

Originally I wanted a FiST but all I could find were ones that were 15k and up. FoST was the same. Saw this for 10k and ran with it. Hasn't stared me wrong since. Since I got it, all I've really done to it is give it a bigger intercooler. Gonna eventually get a tune and I'll see around 250whp/280ft-lbs.
>>17843972
>Millennials (also known as Generation Y) are the demographic cohort following Generation X. There are no precise dates for when this cohort starts or ends; demographers and researchers typically use the early 1980s as starting birth years and the mid-1990s to early 2000s as ending birth years.

Yes and yes? Still doesn't change the fact that we're millennials. At best a rich kid would have had a Blackberry, everyone else had Nokias and Motorolas, and if you were really kewl you had a pager

I think a big part of it has to do with being around and "conscious" during 9/11, and seeing how the world changed since. 6 years old is kind of the cutoff for remembering how things were before then. Also has to do with witnessing the financial collapse and being able to understand how that affects you. Being born in 1990, I remember 9/11 more than any other day from back then, and I remember coming to terms with the financial collapse right as I was getting into college and planning out my future, then having that all thrown in doubt.
