Hey /o/
Need a little help with something.
I bought a 2002 Forester and everything is fine on it except one thing.
Usually the power steering is fine but every so often it is jittery and hard to turn.
It only does this when I am turning the wheel to its limit either way.
Ontop of that the battery light and parking brake lights both come on when it is having trouble.
What could this be and how much would it cost to repair?
>>
Did you check the power steering fluid?

Fan belt needs tightened

No serpentine? If so, it could be the tensioner pulley. Belt slips, messes with power steering pump and alternator causing it to throw the battery light.
>>
You aren't supposed to turn in past 450 degrees. That stresses the pump and in turn fucks up the alternator(because they are on the same belt), probably because the belt is slipping, that's why you get the light. But it shouldn't work like that, you might need to check belt and tensioners if there are any. Check fluid too.

I was just using the generic term.
>fan belt
>drive belt
>serpentine belt
>ancillary belt
It's all good.

Fluid was replaced 1 year ago, still looks okay, and it's all still there
Serpentine and AC belts were just done a month ago.
I checked the tension of both belts.
Did the usual comfortable half turn check on the tension, both are proper.

pump is probably gone, I have a similar problem with an Impreza. I guess they are not the best in terms of longevity.

I own 3, and a friend owns 6... good cars for cheap.

Especially when you buy a JDM Turbo car for cheap because the previous idiot ran it up to redline every time he drove it.
