What does /o/ thinks of pattern parts, third party parts, etc. Would you scour the scrapyards for an original fender, sideskirts, doors, etc instead of buy a new pattern parts for the same(sometimes even cheaper) money?
i sure would, most cars that get scrapped are scrapped because of one specific problem that would cost more to repair than the person bought the car for, so you could have a perfectly functional everything around a dead engine, or vice versa. if you aren't afraid to get murdered by a dog they're great places to go
Depends on the car and how good the pattern is.

Yes, but scrapyard owners are wising up so just do the research
Depends on the level of shitboxery we're talking about.

Pattern parts usually
>uses thinner metal
>feels cheap
>needs some paintworks
>may or may not aligned perfectly to the rest of the car body (might require additional work)
So if you ask me, I might gonna visit the scrapyard first.

How about second gen miata?
non-anglo here, what are pattern parts?

Scrapyard, finding an OEM part in decent shape should be easy enough.

If you're in the UK, you'd find refurb'd OEM parts pretty easy. There's even half a dozen shops that specialize in salvaged MX5 parts.
Pattern parts may seem cheap but the price is going to add up once you include the paintwork as well as the additional labour cost to get it in perfect shape.

You do know that companies like Osram and Bosch are also making third party parts, right?
For mostly anything that isn't just cheap as fuck, I'll check junkyards first (or car-part and then junkyard) but if I absolutely have to or deem that the price and quality difference isn't worth searching junkyards for, I'll go for aftermarket. Just have to buy aftermarket from the right place mostly. My two vehicles are a GMT400 Chevy pickup and a P71 so I can literally always find what I need at a junkyard
