So after many years of saving, I finally bought myself a literal 3k Civic. A 1998 Civic EK sedan as they're called in first world countries. How do I make it more fun and fast? I am thinking of swapping in a B16B engine for a start. What else can I do?

I had a 96 Ex back in high school and college.

450cc dsm injectors - $40
walbro 190lph fuel pump $79
Socketed ECU, dataloggin cable, ostrich chip burner - $100-150
Used stock DSM side mount intercooler. Can use their factory piping but I invested it about $50 of hard piping for it. You can get the side mount intercoolers for like $10-20. Literally throwaway to DSM guys
used DSM 14b internally gated turbo - $75-100 for one in good condition
I used a $90 ebay manifold flanged for a dsm turbo. You can find adapter plates too though.
$25 stock dsm blow off valve
$200 for a wideband/boost gauge. I bought nice new ones though with a pillar pod you can used for less.

Outside of that, I used a dsm downpipe and had it modified by an exhaust shop. I spent $75 on the used 2.5" downpipe and $80 having the exhaust shop cut it and reweld to work on the civic. Then I just used a $90 ebay catback that I adjusted a bit and stuck 90a $40 magnaflow muffler on the back to keep it from sounding too ricey and it wasn't really a fartcan.

I made my own oil lines with $10 of braided fuel hose and $20 in fittings
Had maybe $100 in misc crap/gaskets.

Dont think I missed anything.
All IN all I know I had under $1500 in that turbo setup. Car put down 184whp.

With drag radials I ran a best time of 12.88@109mph.
That setup was together with NO issues besides a clutch for 6 years. Clutch started slipping and I put in a XTD Stage 3 $70 ebay clutch and it was still great after 4 years when I sold the car.

Was ridiculously fun. Reliable stock setup. I never had motor issues but if you did, another d16 is like $50-150 in good shape to toss in. Transmissions are a dime a dozen and easy to rebuild yourself. I never had to rebuild mine but I rebuilt my buddys cars a few times back when we were all into hondas.

Tuned on 91 I still pulled about 30mpg mixed and 38mpg highway.
Being 96+ the oil pumps can be iffy at high rpm so try to avoid the rev limiter.

and obviously going by this it helps a lot if you can just find a junkyard DSM to steal parts off of.
I bought mine mostly from guys on dsmtuners. These days you might have to go on dsm facebook groups.

Not sure how available it'll all be with your third world country.
But their stock parts work great for budget turbo civic setups. Lot of them are pretty maxed at the stock 190-230hp the DSM's make, but on the much lighter civics they are much more potent at 180-200whp.

What in gods name am I reading? You'd be better off selling your car and anything else you don't need, immigrating to America and becoming a citizen, getting a job and THEN when you have actual disposable income you'd be able to afford modifying a civic.
