I have a 2005 Kia Spectra. The CEL is on and the code is P0420 - from what I've been told, I have to have my catalytic converter replaced. I visited a couple of shops and they're telling me it's going to be ~$800
should i just get rid of the car then? it runs fine, I paid $2000 for it

from what I understand, on this car I have to replace the entire exhaust manifold. the ones I find on Autozone's website are $500 and none of them are California compliant - I'm guessing a compliant one will cost more.

I had an 02 Spectra that had the same problem, just took it off and knocked out the innards with a crowbar and stuck it back. Ran fine til I got rid of it.
