how come car engines just have filters? you'd never have to change your oil because it would still be clean.

because filters just get rid of contaminants and shit that it picks up from your engine such as iron filings, dust, dirt and other crap

You'd still have to change your oil because your oil will still oxidize, degrade, etc

Filters are only for large particles not to clean the oil. They oil turns acidic from contaminantes
