Is the AMC Eagle a good vehicle to buy as a fun weekend driver

It's basically an XJ for special snowflakes. Very cool if you can afford to maintain it but everything will be half as durable and 3x as expensive as for a Jeep.

what parts? its an AMC, everything came off some other car. prestolite distributor, ford emissions, gm steering etc.

Your Subaru is a tin can whose outputs aren't even in the triple digits. I'd rather have an engine with some semblance of power and a tried-and-true design, than a fartbox with """modern""" suspension.

You can get kits to improve the suspension like in http://www.johnnylawmotors.com/catalog/suspension-parts-kits/rear-suspension/rear-four-link-kits/HEXA3DB1E/amc-eagle-1979-1987-heavy-duty-triangulated-4-link-kit

You can also update the 4.2 engine a bit by swapping in the camshaft and head from an early to mid 90's Jeep.

Better yet, just get a donor XJ and do a full 4.0/AW4 swap. Fuel injection, more horsepower, and an overdrive fourth gear for better gas mileage.

I feel like I'd do this and start to clean up everything and at the end have like 10k and hundreds of hours into a amc eagle I bought as a beater.
