The protagonist's dad runs one of these places and delivers booze to liquor stores in the town in the valley. He tells the kid to make the delivery in under an hour or the cops would get him. The kid tries harder and harder to get his time down, going faster and faster along the downhill mountain path. One day on a morning delivery at the dawn of summer, he passes by a yellow c5 corvette on the 2-lane mountain...

Well i was thinking of making a short manga about American mid west street racing, probably in some where near Colarado or Montana, with national forest parks with some twists and some random highway races like in Wangan Midnight

Probably set in a small town outside of a major city so you have alot of the racers that race outside the city to avoid cops, and are near the small town cause it's the closest gas station outside the city in the "country" so to speak, and the main character works as a pizza delivery driver saving money to go to school or someshit, and has a couple of small town friends and rivals that he races with or against, and slowly works on his car, with little plots or side goals, like there's your typical "small midwest town" drag race event held in the town once a yr, or a small rally event that everyone is putting together like in something like "My summer car" or whatever, just spitting ideas about where it could go

Like I said I'd like to have old shitbox kind of cars like old Honda's or Toyota's/Nissans, and/or alot of 80s/90's murican muscle/sports cars, like 3rd gen camaros and foxbodies, dodge spirits, Dodge Daytonas Turbos, maybe chevettes and the like Idk, that one anon suggested the Due to with bodykit option, that might work for one of the cars

I was thinking the MC would find an old Foxbody GT at the scrapyard and buys it for $500 and is in decent condition it just needed a couple things to make it road ready and the old owner figured he'd just give it to the scrap yard, and thus the MC finds this gem of a car with very little he needs to do to make it a new DD

Why do we keep equating the Ae86 to a foxbody mustang? The entire premise of Initial D is that the 86 is underpowered and every win is due to Takimi being a superior driver.

Well as the creator of this short series, I've always loved the Foxbody GT, never understood why everyone loves the LX so much, but w/e

And ppl have equated it to the 86 cause it's the closest thing you can equate it to, America didn't have an underpowered, LIGHT, and great handling RWD car
So the closest thing most ppl can think of is the foxbody since any of the power it made was countered by the weight of it, so it's the closest thing.

Additionally 90's us was also influenced by Japanese Automakers beginning to make their splash in the US market. Would you include homage's to the titan's from Japan. What about BMW?

My argument is that Initial D is uniquely Japanese and Japanese car culture is centered around domestics. US car culture has always included imports unless you want to reach back and have the fox body go up against the fastback coupes from the 60's and 70's. That'd be a cool way to keep it 'Merikkan.

I doubt I'm gonna be that strict, I'll try to have mostly American cars, and American versions of cars like the Dodge Daytona/Chrysler Conquest = Mitsubishi Starion
And Dodge Stealth= Mitsubishi GTO
Etc, etc.

But I'm not gonna go into what equals the murican equivalent of x, y or z import.
And id like to have some regular shitbox cars or cars you don't see in major street racing manga/anime like 3rd,4th,5th gen preludes/integras/civics/RSX/ all kinds of celicas/ old mk2 & 3 supras/ etc etc.

Obviously cars like the corvette are going to be the Overpowered "boss" cars so to speak same with others, but just like in both initial-D and Wangan Midnight, a cars a car, many of them can be upgraded and tuned to certain setups to be amazing machines, if an autistic protagonist can have a hard time racing a civic, there's no reason why mine can't have a difficult time racing an upgraded murican car like a festiva or chevette, or neon srt4, or Focus ST, etc.

And remember this is me just sticking my toes into when I'm bored, and is gonna be a short series but open ended enough that I can pick up when/if I want to

after having driven in Japan for over a year and having driven in many places in the US. an American Initial D would be best set in Portland. its a fairly large city with twisty spaghetti like roads set across mountainous to hilly terrain. the closest thing i've come across to driving in Japan.

i have. i went to college near Denver. Colorado roadways aren't as compact and are generally better organized in their layout. Denver is a giant grid. Portland and Japan share similarities in that the layout is a birds nest because of the distinct combination of mountainous terrain AND rivers cutting through everything.
