the 2002 ranger. the duratec 2.3 is way better than the lima 2.5
>>
Honestly it's hard to go wrong with a Mazda/Ford. Can't comment on the Taco or GMC. Do you see yourself in a lot of muddy areas? If not, 4x4 is lower priority. 2wd minitrucks have insane amounts of steering lock, super nice to maneuver in tight spaces, but in low traction situations the lack of a rear limited slip and lack of weight on the back is gonna bite you in the ass.
>>
>>17781539
OP Here
I'll mostly be on highways and maybe the occasional dirt road. Just need something that gets good mileage and can move stuff around every now and then.
>>
>>17781513
mazda and ford trucks are near identical i hear and mazda you can find even cheaper

i am also hunting for a ranger atm, probably getting the 3.0 v6 (vulcan - think it stops in 2006) which ford-ranger forums say is quite reliable
>>
>>17781553
I wouldn't go with the Vulcan V6. It's under powered, I'd rather find the 4.0 or the duratec.
>>
>>17781553
get a duratec 4-cylinder ranger. way better mpg and pretty much equally capable.
>>
>>17781576

the 4cyl is hard to find in my area, and have been looking for a while now

hunting for a 100+k miles ranger that will last me 250k as a daily / light hauling, one I have found has been to the local dealer for all maintenance which is a big plus

take what I can get, i suppose

Cuuuute
The nice thing about Rangers etc is you can get them with crew or extended cabs with jump seats. They basically serve as a higher riding "ute" as you call them with backseats.

I wish I shopped a little better. I have a Lima unit with a standard cab, and it's kind of a bum. The bed is great, but there's not really any storage space, and I end up driving people more often than things so not having even a pretend rear seat is pretty lame.

At least I know as long as I feed the Lima oil it'll probably be indestructible.
>>
>>17782051
That was me genuinely praising them, should I have said "kawaiiiii"?

http://sodo-moto.com/listings/1991-toyota-hiace-double-cab-firetruck-4x4/

i've seriously been thinking about it.
>>
>>17782113
I dont get it, just get a ute if you want double cab.
>>
>>17782130
because;

1. That dually axle will let me haul a fuckton

2. Diesel 4x4 is hard to find in the smaller ones

3. That thing probably has a PTO with connections for hydraulics.

4. Full 8 foot bed AND a crew cab for something a bit smaller than an F150.
>>
>>17781513
I'm really bummed that US regulations have forced trucks to get as big as they are.

I was heartened to read that Nissan was trying to make a new true-compact truck but were having difficulty developing it.

Trucks like this are the perfect size for me. I value fuel efficiency simply because my job has me driving all over town. I don't need to move a mountain but want a bed to store tools and other things that I don't want touching an interior.

The plus side is that most of them are dirt cheap now that they're used.
>>
>>17782163
Just get a fuso mate.
>>
>>17782175
the old toyota trucks are meme taxed to death

the nissan D21's are getting there

the mitsubishi mighty maxes are ae86 tier in terms of bloated pricing. the diesel versions go for 10k+
>>
>>17782182
first off
>mitsubishi
no. not when isuzu and toyota exist. i also can't get a small crew cab Fuso in the US. so if i'm gonna import, i might as well get any one i want.
>>
>>17781966
>>17781985
it's like a lillte red wagon with an engine
>>
>>17781513
I'd tell you to go with the Taco just because I've got one myself and it's outlasted a friends Ranger and a neighbors Dakota with more mileage and way fewer problems to boot.

But somethings sketchy about that listing, both of the 4 cyl (2.4 & 2.7L) engines don't have a timing belt, they use a timing chain that should easily outlast the rest of the engine, only the V6 has a belt that needs to be replaced at around 70,000mi, so I'm pretty sure that the guys referring to the serpentine belts which are stupid easy to replace.

Stop replying to the inane retard. Also, Mitsubishi Fuso=Isuzu>Hino/Toyota>>>>>Nissan UD.
>>
>>17781564
4.0 is subject to issues. Cousin has one and has issues with it all the time
>>
>>17781546
Well first of all go fuck yourself because you could do that in literally any car ever, and you probably don't need a truck you just have a small dick.

>Inb4

Now that's outta the way the other guy is right, the 2002 ranger from the top is your best bet.
>>
>>17782697
>>17781513
I'd also like to add that if you don't need the truck soon, you'd be better off waiting, car prices tend to drop reasonably in fall/winter, and you could probably get a way better deal, just set up a craigslist email alert and watch what sells and what doesn't, when I was buying my Tacoma I had a whole spreadsheet set up of asking prices/milege to time listed/etc, past that just have cash and be able to move quickly.

But if you need to buy now, of the options the 02 Ranger is the best, although I highly suggest you wait until a better Tacoma comes up, mechanically they're much more reliable at high mileage, just make sure tap around the rear leaf spring shackle with a hammer to check for rust while you looking.
>>
>>17781513
2002 ranger is best option
look for a better Tacoma option though
>>
>>17781530
>8 spark plugs

nope
>>
Fuck the Ranger full stop.

Driving a 99 Frontier with 220k on the clock, fucker is a tank and is way better than the 04 Ranger I had.

Both were 4x4, the ranger was 5 spd and the frontier is auto.

The hardbody 1st gen frontiers are just as good as the tacos, expect without the excessive frame rot.

The VG33 is a tank of a V6
>>
The GMC or 02 Ranger are your best bet. Both are extremely reliable. Im a GM guy but like posters said above I'd go with the 92 ranger
