Why aren't digital dashboards more widespread? You can buy 34$ android tablet, take out all the tablet shit leave only screen and soc and the thing probobly gonna cost 7$ at best. Not to mention most cars already have digital gauges along side mechanical ones so they are already half way there, why not go all the way?!
Glare, dead pixels when aging, working under cold temperatures, etc.
Plus on subjective note, I find telling the speed/RPM from a physical needle much easier than from a digital screen. And as I wrote that, I realized that you could probably do away with the whole concept of a "speedometer in gauge form" and just use a numeral display.

More shit to break, not the same as putting that in a production car
$34 tables are incredibly shitty, shitty screens, shitty SOCs, shitty everything. Do you really want to trust your car's instrument panels to a Chinese knock-off, bottom-tier binnage chip?
Not to mention battery powered for no reason and the battery will brick the tablet after a few years of only being plugged in.
And yet you all cream yourself for 80s digital dashes.

Electroluminescent is 1000% better than a Chinese LCD screen

my parents car has a fully digital dash and the speedo is only displayed as a number which makes it very hard to tell how fast you're accelerating/decelerating opposed to looking at the needle of an analog one for a split second to see how fast it's moving
it's also really slow which doesn't help, it's actually quite dangerous because you don't really know how fast you are going into curves if your speed isn't constantly the same

A nonissue when they can build a power supply into the car.

You'd have to make a custom spot for the tablet, and it might look weird since it's square.
If a company did it, it probably just wouldn't be good enough or maybe it's customization is extremely limited and you're always going to be looking at a weird display you don't like.
