No because ECU retunes actually do something on a boosted car. Increasing boost does in fact increase power. I don't know if you can really get that much of a gain as OP says without any additional bolt ons though. That just doesn't make any sense.
>>
>>17716262

I have a MkV GTI and with a downpipe, intake, and tune I have 70 more hp than stock and 113 more lb/ft of torque
Thats from a tuner called APR which is known for having tunes that don't compromise the reliability of the car and if you take a MkVII GTI like the one OP posted to stage 2 then you make 104 more hp and 176 more lb/ft of torque for a total of 336 hp and 404 lb/ft
the tuner meme is not a meme

First link the car wasn't even tuned and was a MkV and was consuming a ton of oil when he bought it so it seems like the previous owner didn't treat it right

Second is again a MkV not a MkVII and stock with no tune. I don't know why it blew up but everyone regards it as a freak accident in the forum which just goes to show you that most GTIs last way longer than that

that third link is just your google search that returned no proof that the MkVII GTIs blow up on a tune, did a GTI driver fuck your gf raw or something?

Wow there's been some stupid shit said in this thread.
Not a single person has mentioned the cam follower issues that plague tsi and fsi engines. And oil pump balance shaft modules like to lock up and shred teeth on your oil pump gears. Hurr durr vee dubya makes bullet proof engines.
I have an 07 GLI in my yard this second, broken down.
It was insanely fun to drive, you can net 270whp just by getting a tune, and the stock fueling system is good to like 500hp thanks to direct injection.
But they're time bombs unless you do a balance shaft delete and check/replace your cam follower every 15k miles. Which is just ridiculous.

This only means the computer will cuck you out of RWD bias once the center diff heats up too much.

The downside of a transverse, FWD-based AWD system is that it has a lot of mass over the front end, effectively supporting understeer, and more mass means there's more traction there, automatically resulting in a FWD-bias, which further adds understeer. Audi for example has nice longitudinal systems, but they fuck it up by retarded engine placement, which makes the computer bias towards it FWD and understeer.

>>
>>17719112
Subaru uses the same drivetrain layout as Audi, genius. They just use boxer engines to reduce how far the weight of the engine sticks out ahead of the axle.
>>
>>17719112
Subaru does the same thing as Audi though: make a great longitudinal AWD system, and then fuck it up by putting the engine in front of the front axle. Guess what happens when you increase polar momentum like that? Understeer.

Also doesn't help that they're using retardedly wide (boxer) engines that require sub-par front suspension (struts instead of double wishbones) to fit. Effectively, they're downgrading the front suspension to get their USP to fit, which makes for even more terminal understeer. Then comes their second USP: 50/50 AWD split, and that supposedly makes for neutral handling. Well, it does, if your base chassis is neutral. In the case of a front heavy, poorly mass-centralised Subaru, it makes the problem even worse.

>>17719137
This. Imagine is Subaru were to use inline fours, now that would make for some awkward handling. Then again, Audi managed to get away with their I5.
>>
>>17715618

You're right, but this is why /o/ shits on the brand as a whole? Of course the FSIs have issues we all know that, but they've improved through the generations into the MkVII
>>
>>17719594

Trust me, it shows.
>>
>>17719603
/o/ shits on VW because their fanbase is obnoxious as fuck, thinking their "German engineered" cars are works of art and inherently superior to everything else on the road that's not German, when in fact they are merely average in terms of reliability and tend to fail catastrophically once the warranty runs out.
But no, they're still German engineered cars and therefore they're THE BEST CARS. Nevermind the fact they're no faster than, say, a Type R, it's German and therefore it's BETTER even if it's not.
>>
Alright /o/ a gti or a wrx. Golf r and sti need not apply. Looking at both cars and leaning to wrx cuz awd and after working on the modern VWs with shit constantly breaking i have a slight bad taste in my mouth. Wat do?

Depends on where it was built, my brother's GTI is a MIM one and it has been nothing but the stuff of nightmares including a transmission failure at a little over 25K. It's a fun car, but the quality control at that plant has me weary of continuing on the VAG train (I own a B7 A4).

The others an overweight overcompensating lard ass with a powerful engine.

The VW reliability meme needs to get it's retirement pension and go away. I'd be inclined to agree with you if this was 2008.

People seem to think that good reliability is measured in how much they can neglect their vehicle's regular maintenance and not have a mechanical issue. This is what is wrong with /o/.
>>
>>17719888
/o/ is a bunch of kids who can barely afford their shitboxes. Maintenance doesn't mean much to them when they can't even afford to keep gas in their vehicles. That's ignoring all the bus pass posters who just shitpost.

So you're a chicken shit with no mechanical ability.

All those cars had less than 30k on the odometer most under 25K. Anything that broke and needed fixing already was fixed, anything that breaks in the future is easily fixed with cheaper aftermarket parts a toolbox and a weekend.
>>
>>17720089
Are you autistic or can you not read? I have a higher mechanical ability than most, and i have already done my time fixing shit boxes, now i need something fun, reliable, with 4 doors and with a warranty. Parts cost money even when you install them yourself, dumbshit. After working on german cars i can tell you that those tend to cost the most. Why do you think bmw and mercs deprecate like shit? Because after the warranty burns out most dont want to deal with a money pit.

I just don't understand why people get to fucking butthurt. All VW fans ever do is defend the cars from these dumb memes. Half the time no one even shits on disgusting GM shit (like I'm going to now)

>>
>>17719888
it stops being regular maintenance when you're replacing shit that's not specified in the service intervals

like timing chains
or cam followers
or walnut blasting intake valves when you get bad misfires
or coilpacks
or fuel pumps
or oil consumption

you can change the oil and fluids every month on those cars and still have it happen to you (if you're lucky enough before the warranty ends)

or you can abuse the fuck out of a volkswagen and it'll be the most reliable car you'll ever own and you'll be on /o/ white knighting them

>>17722484
a corolla can handle any abuse

you could also get a wrx/ford st/civic si and get a car with less long term reliability issues. or roll the dice on a volkswagen and see above
>>
>>17724725
Yeah you're right there but remember that you really don't have to do any of that with the MkVII that OP posted, all of those issues are only issues with the 5th and 6th get GTI

>>17719544
yep. having traction and bad trajectory gives you more options than having no traction. if he'd try to brake gently to throw more mass up front and have front wheels not turned 90 degrees against his trajectory, he might have get enough turning capabilities to make it

i mean, chance is low, but no proper driver would start turning harder in this situation. when you over-turn your wheels, your front just slides forward, when you don't, there are possibilities.

So I picked up my new GTI today and honestly it surprised me. Few notes:

1. It's pretty fast
2. It looks better IRL than it does in photos
3. The 2017 version is very modern looking. It has all the right lights and gimmicks in the right places.
4. The DSG is pretty good. It's addicting to drive this thing like a racerboy. Nothing like hard braking and downshifts into a corner
5. The handling is very very weird in a good way. It doesn't feel like a FWD at all. Like the harder you corner, the more stable it feels. Hard to explain.
6. The stock suspension is actually an incredible balance of comfort for daily driving and actual sportiness. Considering the profile of the tires on this, it's amazing they have managed to make the ride quality this good
7. Love the performance gauges. Boost, temps, g-forces, etc...

So far, no real complaints. My only real concern is that this transmission isn't going to last. I've had some hard shifts already (doesn't really like to shift unless your WOT pinned) so I don't see this lasting 100k miles considering how I like to drive it. Guess I'll tone it back

My mk6 GTI got totaled by another driver a couple weeks ago.

I think this week I'm going to buy a mk7 GTI Sport in the same color.

I sort of want to find a RWD or AWD car to buy, but the R seems too expensive, I'd rather save my money and it's not like I'll be bored with the GTI.
I'm considering looking into a BMW as an alternative but I've gotten so used to GTIs and VWs and I like them...

hahaha of all the things you said, this is the MOST WRONG BY FAR.

Its undertuned like hell. Factory rated 220 crank hp but routinely dynos 250-260 crank HP. A simple APR stage 1 tune takes you to 316 crank HP and 381 tq.... and guess what?

Thery're still reliable!
