RD might segregate paid mods. Am I reading this right? Some dude's crying impending doom coming from the copyright holders too but I don't know about that being a thing in the near future.
>>
>>17712763
Why can people just be happy with a thanks and seeing their number of downloads increase? It's not even like these are original car designs they are making. They're just debadged versions of real cars
>>
>>17712438

It downloads absolutely everything. If you look at all the content they have it makes sense
>>
>>17712801
I don't get it either, this whole thing is hobby based and I for one enjoy just making some skins and seeing people happy to use them

I mean that should be the primary motivation, our community (simracing as a whole, not /ovg/) is quite small and despite all quite tightly knit. And seeing people demand compensation from a small community for making objectively half-assed or complete guesswork mods is a joke. I would understand asking for money if there was a legitimate business behind, as in obtaining licenses to create the cars, getting data from manufacturers to ensure it is as accurate as possible etc., but we are not the flight sim community where this stuff actually happens, and the paid mods are generally of a very high quality (PMDG simulations, DCS modules etc), whereas something like the URD cars are just eye candy guesswork. Hell, the GT500 GT-R is objectively completely fucking terrible and in no way capable of turning the laps of the real thing, yet these guys demand real payment for something so bland.

And then we have something like those track mod makes who want payment for their absolutely terrible work. Why on earth would you pay money for a mod that isn't even good looking? And if you, as the guy who did the terrible Hockenheim claimed, need to money to sustain the hobby of creating tracks, then you're in the wrong hobby. It's not like anyone is paying for the dev programs anyway, and buying Maya or Photoshop to make mods for a game only is just objectively stupid.

When even official content with real data behind it can feel dodgy (iracing/rf2/AC) its hard to support paid mods that are even less realistic
>>
>>17712763
It's going to end with a lot of people getting sued. Most of them are using pirated or private use only software and want to be paid for their work ripping content out of other games.

>GTA is a good example of this and when I personally make cars I change it visually not to represent a mm perfect car ,
GTA do the same make cars , change some visuals and make up some fake names and logos , its been done for years and no one cares because there is no copyright issues with it

That argument just doesn't work. Cars in GTA are HEAVILY modified compared to the real life cars. Just take this one as an example. Yes, the general shape might be based on a Mini Cooper. But it doesn't have the same headlights, the same taillights, the panels are different sizes and split up differently, the overall dimensions aren't exactly the same etc.
All the payware mods for sims I have seen are just exactly the same car, just debaged. If Rockstar would do it like that for their cars, they'd get sued at once. And if the modders would transform their cars like Rockstar does, no one would pay for the mod because it isn't the actual car that people want.
>>
>>17712865
What do you mean goy this is totally a Shiro JT5, what is a Nissan GT-R :^)

Yeah you're hitting the nail on the head here. And it is going to happen as soon as someone high enough in the structure gets a whiff of it. And they will absolutely deserve the cease and desist letters that are bound to come.

Actually, funny story, Race07 uses the BMS Incognito from GTA IV to stand in for the Mercedes C-class STCC touring car as Mercedes would not grand them the license for the game (probably too expensive)

>>
>>17712763
The argument of "Hard work needs to be appreciated with money" seems to come up more and more with recent times which is wierd because for one thing, making mods has become cheaper and easier than before, with stuff like free tools such as Blender becoming viable and more tutorials for these tools over the entire internet. Another reason why I can't take this argument seriously is that I've never found a payware mod that was as extensive and detailed as the CTDP mods for rF1 which, surprise surprise, were 100% free

My theory as to why that argument is coming up now is that more and more modders are buying models from sites like turbosquid and want to get the money they spent back. Most of these models cost somewhere between $80 and $200. Or maybe it's just increasing greed, who knows. Honestly, the best way for them to make money would just to release them fully and link a Patreon or something in the description on whatever modsite they upload it. But donation exclusive mods or features, like that RallyLegends or DRM teams do also don't seem right to me.
>>
>>17712972
I think your theory about turbosquid is correct for some, but for instance the paid F1 2017 mod for Assetto Corsa has a stunning resemblance to the Perinn F1 CAD model which is freely available in basically any format you'd like

So it's definitely a cashgrab for some

I live in Alberta, a fairly conservative, blue-collar province that refuses to buy into social justice shit.

Everyone's parents, grandparents, and teachers over 30 raised us with very traditional, conservative values. You know, the standard faith/family/friends/hard work/don't be an annoying cunt shit. There are still turbosluts and snowflakes floating around, but it's... much less than other parts of Canada. And when they pop up, most of the time a responsible adult makes sure that shit stops. For example, this is my old principal:

http://edmontonjournal.com/news/local-news/pride-flag-unwelcome-at-edmonton-catholic-school-ceremony

The weird SJW campaign to label all conservatives = Nazi's means I'm more or less collateral just for existing.

CTDP:
>all drivers and cars

>all aero/engine upgrades over the season
>all the different livery changes and helmet changes throughout the year
>ability to change the atmospheric pressure of the simulation to reflect each grand prix in the season
>0,00€ (FREE)

more unsolicited opinions on ride2

After some more virtual seat time it seems a major source of frustration in this game is that the race line is completely wrong
It suggests braking into and through corners which results in the bike running wide consistently and would explain why in most videos people are missing the apex
Ignoring the line and braking while straight up and then accelerating through the corner like you should produces a much better result
Either milestone fucked up and didnt understand cornering on a bike or they are geniuses and just cant make a race line worth shit

Also turning off the 2002 arcade machine music has improved the experience
>>
Been playing SHiT 4 and it feels pretty well balanced in terms of AI difficulty.
For me racing game's AI difficulty settings usually end up being too easy (placing constantly in first) or too hard (never even making it to podium).
I have all assists off, no restarts, and difficulty set to highest and my experience this far has been great. Nailing a podium finish requires some actual effort and feels rewarding. It really is a "You win some, and you lose some," situation.
Also, the Land Rush RWD stadium trucks are fun as hell, and I enjoyed that the most so far outside of the rally championships.
>>
>>17718199
I pirated it to try it out and honestly I can't get over the handling and feel to it.

I feel like I'm driving a toy car on a skinny little road, and also there's almost no serious ditches on the sides.
Whenever I tried to powerslide around a corner the car always felt like it was trying to straighten out even without countersteer, and the car seemed to overreact to much of my steering input, even on snow. Not to mention that the snow felt extremely grippy and almost the same as driving on Wales stages.

I will admit, the stadium trucks were kind of fun and seemed like they had more consistent physics.

T. Anon who completed nearly the whole dirt rally campaign with only the 2001 impreza
>>
>>17718199
Too bad the tracks are a ten-year step back from Dirt Rally and handling on gravel completely ignores newton's first law.
>>
>>17718226
I'll say, DiRT Rally did have a noticeable difference in physics. Was a lot less forgiving in comparison, even with 4's settings set to "Simulation".
I also miss Finland's rally stages where you could clip a ditch and flip the whole fucking car too. Finland was my favorite venue, with Monaco and Greece tied for a close second, all of which unfortunately didn't make the cut in this game.
>>17718234
I've personally not had any issues with the tracks aside from (on the longer stages) seeing some of the same sets of turns over and over. That Right 1 Down in Wales haunts me in my sleep.
>>
>>17718262
Speaking of pace notes, many of the turns in dirt 4 feel much less tight than they should be, ie a right 3 in dirt rally felt like the equivalent of a right 2 or even 1 in D4

Not to mention the pace notes in d4 are also much later on default than in DR because braking is also unrealistically easy in D4
>>
>>17718226
>and also there's almost no serious ditches on the sides.
and that's a positive difference compared to SHiT rally, where 99% of the road length has ditches, dirt mounds, cliffs or vertical banks on both sides of the road
>>
>>17718159
kinda, its not that much pay to win but its a bit grindy at first
graphics are good (pic unrelated), driving physics are okish, car and track selection is very good, and there is always something to do, just the game is made to make money so there are wait times or pay gold, pay gold or grind races for money, pay gold to upgrade car etc. but overall is fun
i have 115 hours into the game already, finished 13% of the game, have 39 cars and play it almost everyday so if you are into mobile gaming you should go for it

Admit it rally2kguy, the only reason you don't like dirt rally is because you're used to playing some antiquated rally game with shit tracks that barely have any sort of elevation change, texture, or scenery to them

>shit tracks that barely have any sort of elevation change, texture, or scenery to them
except Rally 2000's stages do everything better than SHiT Rally stages

they're longer, have actual straights, more variety in scenery (as far as forests go), more variety in road surfaces, wider off-road bounds, junctions where you can actually miss a turn if you're not focused - and not get instantly reset back on the right road, and so on. to top it all off, stages are not cloned and sold as "multiple" stages when it's the same piece of road but in smaller or bigger pieces

SHiT Rally's pathetically short stages cause gameplay issues. for example, there's absolutely zero reason to ever change your tire if you get a puncture, the +1:30 penalty is higher than what you lose by just limping to the finish, even on the longest stages.

The repetitiveness of roads combined with poor pacenotes make SHiT stages a complete grindfest, whether you start slow but clean and build up better times, or learn not to crash on each corner one by one. in fact, it was so bad that Shitmasters decided that the [poorly] generated stages in SHiT 4 are a better concept. which ironically is also done better in other Magnetic Fields games

in Rally 2000 you get over 650km of roads (over 1300km if you count both ways as separate stages). in SHiT Rally, even after counting all the half-lengths and reverse combinations, you get only around 515km of roads. If you count only the unique pieces of road, it's only a fucking pathetic 127km. The first Colin McRae Rally game had literally double the road distance of SHiT Rally.

tl;dr you are correct, the stages are one of the main reasons why Rally 2000 is better than SHiT Rally

I think paid mods are great. I personally like to see a handful of youtube videos and reviews first but generally speaking people asking for money for any mods they are making are making mods at the quality of standard content of any one game if not of a higher quality.

>>

>and then come the people going muh realism when there's a mod proposed that does not align with them. And then the same persons proceed to play Forza or some other arcade game
when has this happened
>>
>>17723211

Paid mods are great for everyone. End of. If you don't personally like them then no one is forcing you to part with your money. If you do like them, wonderful, spend your money. There is never need for this discussion or people getting angry with paid mods. You DO NOT have to buy them therefore WHY would it ever be an issue. :/
>>
>>17723265
This is either a level of retardation or trolling so deep it triggers me
>>
>>17723271

My personal opinion is ,
If you spend 12hrs a day 7 days a week for 6-7-8 weeks non stop and you have created a work of art and its flawless ingame with zero bugs , no issues ,
then at that point after you have created something and its finished ,
then my opinion is at this point its fine to sell
>>
>>17723302
But that's not what's happening here

What's happening is hobby 3D modellers make half assed inaccurate mods, brand them as premium and sell them
>>
>>17723311
shit quality is not an inherent part of payware mods

i don't think that anon is in any way implying half-assed mods are good, paid or not
>>
>>17723322
I have yet to see a mod made for a racing game that was actually worth the advertised price. I've tried all the URD mods for AC and RF2 and some of the sekrit claab rally tracks for AC, and none of them measure up to say, DLC content for AC which is priced lower and of much higher quality
>>
>>17723311

I think paid mods are the future, you can see in flight sim games and The Sims 3/The Sims 4. Some of these mods wouldn't exist at all if the creator couldn't make some money out of it, so it's not like the community has "lost" anything by having it become a paid mod. No one forces anyone to buy them, so I don't really see an issue with them.
>>
>>17723345
You cannot compare the creation of an aircraft to the creation of a race car.

Making a plane for eg. DCS is VERY costly. In fact, we know the development of just the flight model - none of the mesh, textures, systems or damage model, just the actual in-air behaviour cost $150,000 to develop. It does not take $150,000 to make a physics model for a car.
>>
>>17723326
yeah it's almost as if pros do it better than NEET
>>
>>17723351
Forgot to add this was for the BF-109K4, for something more complex like a modern jet with fly-by-wire such as the F/A-18C currently being made it is much more costly

the problem with this logic is that by allowing paid mods to grow they are slowly becoming the norm.

Do you really want paid mods to be the standard? It's slowly happening with consoles, about to happen with PC as well.

Fan-made content for games was almost always made out of passion and love for the game, never with money as the priority, but with paid mods that is the case.

if people here drive so recklessly, why aren't series organized in a game where crashing is encouraged?

The traction physics are god tier compared to RR3. When you lose traction, you don't keep ploughing forwards at 200kmh, you can actually drift.

That, and there's a few shitboxes in it, and racing shitboxes is more fun than racing race cars IMO.
>>
>>17723524
You mean death mode and we restart if anyone in the mumble elite gets blown up
>>

your argument is invalid since TC mods like Freeworlds exist, and are free. Not to mention the XWA mod that replaces ALL models with updated higher quality versions. Sticking to SW, there's the Unity project that will have the first x-wing ported to it.
Red Orchestra 2 and Rising Storm 2 have whole custom maps made for free(and then you have the darkest hour for RO1 which is still updated, also free)

and the main reason why paid mods should not exist is because it is in fact illegal to modify the software you purchased

they ditched the zero to hero storyline that killed a sense of meaningful progression through the story.
also in line with the motorsport games they ditched any sort of structured events in favor of the'you can do anything' model that while good in theory means that you arent required to experience different cars if you dont want to. the motorsport games went downhill with the horizon games

The problem with the bouncing is that most of the damper settings aren't finalized.

The cars that ARE, drive pretty good.

>>17724410
Look, I don't like fixed chase cameras, they just look weird to me. I personally think it's easier to drive with camera swing because the car's movements look more natural.

Tyres of street cars in PC2 are way too grippy.
Pulling lap times of 8s quicker than in real life at medium sized courses? No problem.
Fucked up post peak slip angles? Check
Older cars like McLaren F1 or Jag XJ220 having unrealistically stiff suspensions to work with modern tires and no option for 90s tyres? Check
GT1 and group 5 cars having rubbers as sticky as modern race cars? Check
Snowy and rainy surfaces having too much grip? Check
Only rx and modern race cars are good in this game.
>>
>>17724631
Did you edit any of the cars' setups or did you just run them with standard issue shitty default setups?

>>
>>17724657
I'm not talking about cars being easy or hard to control, or being understeery on default setup cause I didn't drive any race car or supercar in my life but about absoulte grip levels. If certain car drives 10-20km/h faster in given corner than in Motortrend or any other youtube footage with telemetry, on same fucking tires or if 500hp car cannot do sustained burnout on first gear, I might as well play Forza 7 if I want accesible physic model or just stick to AC but every time I play it I quickly realize why I stopped playing it last time.
Yes PC2 physic is massively improved vs PC1 but its still not realistic sim.
>>
>>17724680
physics probably are around the ~2014-early 2015 assetto corsa level where it's pretty enjoyable but probably not the best on the ffb side of things nor as uncompromising as it could be
>>
by my logic, don't try to convince me after 7 years driving in leagues and doing mods for these simulators that there are super humans that can drive 5 seconds faster than anyone because they are gods

they just simple don't exist. There exist good drivers, very good drivers, but if you are doing the same as him in every corner and he is 3 seconds faster, then its not the driver, its the car
