I just got my license. I am also broke as fuck. I assumed buying a used car for a few grand would be cheaper than leasing but my friend told me leasing is better because if anything goes wrong with the car I'm fucked as used cars are more expensive and overall more of a hassle to get repaired by mechanics. Is this true? I don't want to get stuck in monthly payments I dont know how much longer I'll be at my current job I dont want to get stuck in something I may not be able to pay for in a few months, a year or whenever
You know you're going to get fucked when you're leasing. You take a gamble of getting fucked harder when you buy one outright. You have to pick your used cars carefully.
LEASING is literally paying not to own something, and you're just going to trap yourself in payments. Used cars will usually have less labor hours than new cars because they were actually designed to be worked on. Find the best 3000 dollar camry, corolla, accord, or civic you can find in manual (old automatic transmissions can be a gamble on some cars, plus manual is anti-theft for free) and buy it. Short of a total disaster, you can also save money by repairing things yourself. 200 dollars in tools can save you thousands in mechanic labor charges.
If you're Euro, go for a used 90's - early 2000's car.
Golf 3, Twingo, Logan, Corsa something cheap and practical. Just be sure you buy wisely, don't just buy for everyone. See if vehicle history is avaible and what previous/current defects it may have.

Yeah this. Driving a shitbox as a first car is always a good idea, three of my friends crashed their first car in the first three months. Imagine doing that with a leased car.

I cant talk for america, but here in germany, you gotta pay for insurance. So yeah, go ahead and crash that first car you leased and didnt proberly insure because goddamit its expensive for some guys.
