Looking at buying a 1987 Camaro (pick related), but don't a lot about cars. It's going for just under 2k and have heard a lot of negative things about Chevrolet as a manufacturer. Does the car have a bad history of unreliability?
Also general Manufacturer stereotypes and if they're true or not thread.

That's a berlinetta front end. If it's a V6 (which I believe all the Berlinettas were), it'e definitely not worth it
>>17699220
It's literally the shittiest camaro they ever made
>>17699240
>>17699258
go on, what was wrong with it?
You can tell the Berlinetta's by the really, really weird dash. It'll be all digital, and when you look over at the radio, it'll be on a stalk. They're actually quite cool.

no pictures of the interior in the ad, rip

You're buying an American car from the 80's, are you really questioning wether it'll be reliable or not.
>>17699220
If you buy this car, you're then obligated to bend your aunt over the hood and rail her in the ass. Just recommended maintenance.
>>17699277
>don't know a lot about cars
??????????????????????
don't
>>17699220
>wants to buy a 30 year old car
>but don't a lot about cars
Question answers itself, buy a civic for 3k and fuck off
>>17699265
that's rad
autotragic, but still rad
>>17699338
>but don't a lot about cars
don't try and insult someone when your brain turns off mid sentence you illiterate faggot
Op don't go to /o for opinions on cars , most of them don't own cars and are bitter europoors that shit on American cars because of their infiority complex.
That said get the GTA trans am instead.

There is literally nothing wrong with general motors, mo-ron. During the 80's? Yeah, maybe, but in general hell no.
>>17699260
The only saving grace of a Camaro that age is a big ol V8 engine. V6 models are basically weaker, heavier, much worse built, and slower than any halfway decent Civic.
>>17699260
The Berlinetta was the model GM tried marketing towards women. The idea was that its supposed to be posh and comfy with none of that annoying power and performance. It's literally just flash and no substance. I dont think the front end looks all the great either compared to the regular models.
Is the aftermarket still as endless as it used to be for SBCs?
>>17699260
ignore them. The problem with the V6 model was that it was underpowered and slow. The engine has potential, as was shown in later cars with variants of the engine, but the version in that Camaro was plagued with shot floring cylinder heads and intake manifolds. If the engine can't breathe, it can't make power. Luckily, you can change this by swapping the heads and intake manifolds with some from a newer FWD GM car in the junkyard (specifically, heads/intake manifolds from a 3100/3400 engined car). Those mods combined with the 2.8L's flat top pistons would give it a high compression ratios and a lot of air flow, which would be good for around 200 HP. 200 HP, btw, was more HP than most V8 engined Camaros of the time. The V6 models can make power if you know what you're doing.

>shot floring
shit flowing
Think of it as a project, a work in progress.
Buy that, do whatever little bullshit it might need to keep it running right, and start saving for your brand new crate order 350 chebby to slap in it.
>>17701412
swapping the 2.8L to a 350 is a lot harder than you think. You need to swap the front sub-frame for one from a factory V8 car.
>>17701499
I'd bet Summit would have a kit for less than $250.
>>17701511
nope.
>>17701499
>You need to swap the front sub-frame for one from a factory V8 car.
Just the K-member.
>>17699277
Lmao if it's got a 350 in it (anyone buying a turd gen should be buying an iroc z or a 305 in manual) it's perfectly fine. He can fix literally any problem by googling the problem and visiting the many forums dedicated to turd gens, with YouTube videos to boot.
>>17701412
>brand new crate order 350 chebby
Go big-block and skip the intermediate step. You will save a ton of money and be a lot happier.
>>17701654
HE literally might as well just save up 1k more and buy an iroc. The car is cool in general, and has plenty of room for cheap mawds.
>>17701624
>turd gen
>perfectly fine
As a third gen owner, literally nothing is ever remotely fine
>>17701667
Those bushings are 30 years old and still in one piece. Try that on a BMW.
>>17701613
The K-member is the sub-frame. Different name, same part
>>17701840
>a crossmember is the same thing as a sub-frame!
>>17699283
Nice
>>17699220
Shiiiet
>>17699810
You should have stayed with shot floring. You could have birthed a new meme. Would have been the next great pleb filter.

>>17699240
I think they had 305's for some years as an option, but again probably not worth it.
>>17701654
Big blocks don't fit without extensive modifications.
>>17701412
If it's not already a V8 you'll never get it to stay cool enough. Biggest problem with v8 swaps on these is cooling.
>>17702200
Literally just a bigger radiator and water pump
