Save more. Between the bike, insurance, and gear (at least get full face helmet, gloves, boots, and a jacket) you'll be in for quite a bit more than $1600. Then there will be the inevitable itch to mod things, get new gear.

Don't skimp on your helmet either, buy a good one that fits you. You don't need to go $600 Arai helmet to get a nice helmet, but don't go to Wal-Mart and buy some Chinese crap either.
