Seeing those Turnpike Doubles IRL is pretty crazy. They don't run a ton of them, but they are long.

There is a big parking lot on the Sawgrass Expy (toll road) that is right off the exit and they drop the trailers there for local guys to grab or whoever will pick it up later. I see lots of Sysco, McD's, and McLane trailers there. They run down the Turnpike from up north like Orlando or Ocala where their big plants are and then get on the Sawgrass and go there without ever getting on an interstate or local road. Probably $50-$75 in tolls (or more) to do that 3hr-4hr drive.

The two things currently wasting the most time on these trips are:

A bureaucracy at the guard shack composed of a secondary pre trip, a form to fill out for each truck including a massive checklist of how many chains, straps, etc. each truck should have (Even though the guards should've done that on the overnight shift)

Lazy cucks at the drop site that wait until all five trucks arrive, and then unload, rather than unloading them as they arrive. Wasting a good 2.5 hours.

Semi trailers are easier to back in some aspects. With dry vans, it's easy to see when the trailer is straight in your mirrors. And the longer the trailer, the less sensitive it is to steering input. With short tralers, sometimes you turn the steering wheel a tiny bit while backing and it turns the trailer 30deg. So it's easier to make small adjustments on longer trailers and keep them straight while backing.

I'm now in Washington, the state where I have to check my mirrors for cops to drink Mountain Dew while driving but not to blaze a blunt

So I plan to go to trucking school to get my CDL, my only issue is that although I have 4 years of accident free ticket free driving on my record, all those 4 years I had a class M license instead of a class C. I recently got my class C. I asked the representative and she said this was fine but I'm skeptical, has anyone experienced a similar situation? Does it even matter as a beginner?

What should I expect taking the class? I'm going to Western Pacific Trucking School in Stockton if it makes any difference.

Sounds like you're trying to do it too fast because you're worried about the upcoming curve. Start your downshift a bit earlier and take your time.

It all takes time. Floating is easier than double clutching, but if you get a brand new truck with fresh gears, you have to be spot on when you float into the next gear or else you will miss it. With an old truck you can still float within like +/- 100rpm. In some brand new ones it won't go in unless you are within +/- 25rpm. If you are missing those, double clutching will open it up to +/- 50rpm.

Also how much driving exp you have? Because double clutching normally makes it easier when you don't have the timing right but brand new people will try and push the clutch down all the way and that doesn't work because of the clutch brake. When shifting gears you normally only need to push the clutch like 1/3 or 1/2 of the way down

Because whether new or old truck, double clutching seems to give you a larger window to shift and get it into gear. If you can into timing, then floating is def easier but there are a couple things to figure out abd it still takes time and pratice to really git gud.

Like the downshifting thing when floating, once you really get used to the truck you can be a lazy ass like me and when you're coming up to a red light or stop sign in 8th gear, just leave it in 8th and let off the gas until you slow down to 5mph, then shift down to 4th or 3rd. But when floating, you often have to tap the throttle a tiny bit to get some pressure off the gears so you can go into N.

I was taught to double clutch when I went to driving school, and I always assumed that everyone else had the same experience. I was surprised to find out that some """""professional""""" driver trainers were only teaching people how to float.

Personally I think one should learn how to double clutch first as a basis, and ease into floating after they are comfortable with it.

Yeah when I got my license my instructor taught me how to double clutch and that's how I got my license otherwise I'd have gotten an "auto-only" restriction on my license. The thing is right after school I got into a job with an auto truck. So for a year and a half I got a little spoiled on that. This time around I thought double clutching would help me but I found it so much easier to float the gears.

So far I love the job. Same shit I was doing at Lowe's except most of the stops are construction/industrial so hardhat/steeltoe required. That also means most of the drops unload my truck while at Lowe's I was the one unloading pretty much all the time. First week and I did 7.5hrs of over time and since it's 3 miles away it's literally a 10min commute.

Supposedly within the next year or so, they are starting this new program like Coke has right now. Basically they get rid of the bulk positions who just drop pallets on docks at Walmarts and Publix. Huh, when I was at Dr Pepper they had just gone from 8 bulk positions down to 3 so that could be indicative of a trend.

It used to be that the bulk guys were the senior ones that got the position after years of sweating it out on the bay trucks. With this method like you said those old guys will be gone in a flash.

Another trend I noticed was a decline in the sales staff. Instead they were gradually assigning more of the sales duties to the merchandisers.

On highways why do trucks pass each other at one or two mph difference of speed when there is other traffic passing on the left?

For example truck a is doing 65 in right lane, truck B is approaching the back of truck A at just barely a tick faster. At the last second, right as twelve cars are about to pass them both in the left truck B jumps into left lane and then proceed to "pass" the truck in front of him at a crawl over at least a mile or two. I have even see them do this on hills, steep ones, where the pass maneuver can take several minutes.

Is it just about staying in gear? Or what is it. Is it really important to go one mile per hour faster than the other truck? Sorry I dont know anything about trucking and have no right to post in the hallowed threads of your greatness.

Just wondering why this happens so much.
