What if: >make a rotary engine build >instal 5 rotors >tune

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

What if:
>make a rotary engine build
>instal 5 rotors
>tune it so there can only be only 4 rotors working at a time so that remaining one gets to cool off
>the fresh rotor kicks in at designated time letting one rotor chill
>cycle this and solve overheating problem

is this shit viable? I know all rotors have to be installed sequentially so that one crankshaft rotates them all but forget that, if that was not an issue would this work ?

Doritos don't actually have a heating problem when they're properly cooled. Just get a 3 inch radiator and you'll be fine.

The issue with rotaries is getting them to pass emissions testing. because they burn oil in their cycles it hard to keep them as clean as a piston engine. However if mazda's compression ignition tech comes through we may see the rotary make a comeback.

It's all gores fault we don't have a 4 rotor rx7 to shit on pistoncucks with

No, rotary engines are autistic shit.
The only reason they were ever conceived to begin with was to get around regulations on engine displacement, disingenuously suggesting that each rotor is equivalent to a cylinder (even though there are 3 combustion pockets on each rotor). Functionally a 1.3L 2 rotor engine is more equivalent to a 3.9L V6. 6 bangs per turn. So they aren't even as good at "specific output" as is alleged, and specific output is more autistic bullshit that doesn't actually measure anything useful.

Here's the thing though, Dorito Swapping a Corvette will make the car crap, yet LS swapping an RX-7 makes it better.

The weight difference of the 13b and the LS1 is only of 115lbs, the V8 being slighty heavier, but with a lot more of power. If you were to add a turbo to the Dorito engine, it would actually be heavier than the LS1, for less performance, a higher maintenance cost, and the same fuel consumption.

So yeah, let that soak in.

Conventional 4 cycle piston engines get better fuel economy, don't burn oil if they are in good condition, can be tuned to much higher levels of performance, are cheaper, don't require you to be a shit-eating fanboy to support, etc.
If you deliberately bought a piston engine instead of a rotary engine you are the opposite of cucked.

If you don't modify the! Past like 350hp and assuming the seals were of high quality from the factory you're talking !maybe every 75,000 miles unless you gum the thing up with carbon driving like a retard.
You can make them even more reliable but you'd need aftermarket seals since the factory ones are a bit thin for the pressure increase a turbo has.

Rx7 unreliability is mostly a meme.
>>
>>17685424
Some of the old naturally aspirated 12a motors are actually very reliable. The turbo really puts a burden on those seals on the turbo models.
Rotary cars were always enthusiast cars and a non cucked enthusiast shouldn't care that he has to pop a couple new seals in every 4 years on his awesome sports car. Your average Ferrari will give you far more headaches

emissions are a regulatory thing. What would be a better example for this would be fuel efficiency in the form of miles per gallon.

You're right the law of conservation says for every 1kg of fuel you consume you'll get 1kg of gas produced as exhaust, but that says nothing about the engine's performance as every engine follows that law. What is a better indicator is fuel efficiency per mile
>>
>>17686095
They're more efficient with the space they're pffered, they lose far less power from things like I ring drag and overcoming the inertia of the piston all that stuff. Kind of hard to explain that bit on 4chan.

The emissions but is because they inject oil into their fuel mixture to lubricate themselves. Really really hard to pass emissions testing of you burn oil

>>
>>17686167
And Doritos are garbage at everything. As I mentioned earlier they were conceived for nothing more than to cheat laws regulating engine displacement. Those laws no longer exist. That's why they don't make RXFag cars anymore. There's no need to.
>>
>>17686148
Yes but the piston itself puts drag on the crankshaft when it's not firing, so essentially a 4 cylinder is always dragging 2 non powered cylinders with its power strokes where as a rotary is always on its powerstroke all the time.

The o ring argument is the fact that cars tend to have like 3 or 4 o rings on each piston while a rotary has 3 on two rotors, leading to less drag on the cylinder walls
>>
>>17686174

>>
>>17686177
It's not dragging shit. A bicycle crank reciprocates in the exact same manner and pedaling a bicycle is still the most energy efficient mechanical process that has yet been invented.
The thing that causes engine drag is the vacuum created on intake stroke which can easily be counteracted with a small turbocharger if maximum efficiency is your goal. Rotary engines experience the exact same vacuum. You just don't see it in your mind because you are autistic and think of it as a giant fidget spinner that you want to have sex with.

No its not backpedaling at all

You bring up a metric no one in the consumer industry uses then try to blame the lesser metric on another platform as a result of its design even though this has no meaning anywhere because its a non-issue.

>huge deal for sports cars
not enough a big deal apparently to warrant any sports car to use it. Clearly the specific output of piston engines is adequate for 99.99999999999999999% of all sports engines to utilize such design.
>>
>>17686227
Let's pretend for a second that specific output wasn't some retarded metric worshiped by 15 year old's that have never owned a car in their life.
It's because of the disingenuous manner that Mazda sold the engine displacement for rotary engines as. On say the 13B each combustion pocket has 3 0.65L combustion pockets. Mazda sold regulators on the idea that only the one that was currently lined up with the combustion section counted toward the total engine displacement. But the reality is that all 6 combustion pockets (with a total displacement of 3.9L) fire for each turn of the eccentric shaft. They probably managed to sell their BS because not many people were familiar with the Wankel engine at the time.
So they aren't even good at that either.
They are only good at space efficiency, but that's a meme too considering that frontal cross-section is more important to overall aerodynamics than how pointy you can make the front of the car.
>>
>>17686266
Obviously a dearth of specific output isn't an issue for any piston engine since every sports car today, yesterday, and yestercentury uses a piston engine of some sort EXCEPT the snowflakes at mazda who made a small handful of cars that apparently have amazing specific output that no one had an issue with ever but sucks in every other field that people do care about.

Okay retard let's get your tard wrangler to bring you back to 1975, when the mustang cobra made a whopping 160 hp from its iron boat anchor of a v8. America's car industry nearly died because we couldn't make engines that were powerful for their size, while the Japanese and europeans could.

So in conclusion, having a massive 790 lb v8 in the front of your car that has to be built to support such a tub of lard is bad because it makes cars slower than if they had a small engine that makes the same horsepower.

>not a big enough deal for any sports car to use it
Did you know that GM developed a rotary for the AMC pacer? And that Mercedes was hard at work with a rotary right before the emission crisis. Both companies saw its niche potential for small compact sporty cars.
What scared them off was the emissions testing. The rotary was pretty new and unproven so they cut their losses on a technology they weren't even sure would pan out. Mazda held on because of the huge success of its Cosmo rotary cars , the rotary has become a staple of their sports cars . >GM's pacer from 1975
oh man another 40 year old car that only had 4 production years I really wonder why GM dropped the project entirely.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMC_Pacer
>Originally, the car was designed for a Wankel rotary engine. In 1973, AMC signed a licensing agreement with Curtiss-Wright to build Wankels for cars and Jeep-type vehicles. (The agreement also permitted Curtiss-Wright to sell rotaries elsewhere.)[30] Later, AMC decided instead to purchase the engines from General Motors (GM), who were developing them for use in their own cars. However, GM canceled development in 1974 for reasons that included durability issues, the fuel crisis, tooling costs (for the engines and also for a new product line designed to take advantage of the rotary's ultra-compact dimensions) and the upcoming (late 1970s) U.S. emissions legislation. It was also thought that the high-revving Wankel would not suit Americans accustomed to low revs and high torque.

Specific output dropped in the 1970s because of the fuel crisis and strict emission regulations being introduced. It takes time to design new engines. So the first response of automakers was to just lower the compression ratio (to deal with NOx) and use less aggressive valve timing(to lower fuel consumption). There's no magic going on inside japo engines. Japanese engines were always small, so they just had to keep selling cars.
It's not magical. It's not that 1 company makes a better litre than another company. This is retarded thinking. The amount of energy you produce is directly proportional to the amount of fuel you burn. (minus arbitrary loses due to inefficiencies) The lowest hanging fruit to burn more fuel is to just make the engine bigger.
Your Honda shitvic doesn't make 40mpg when you're playing initial D with it. It's specially engineered to dump plenty of extra fuel into the cylinder when you floor it.
American automakers also had to cater to what the American market wants. And people used to love towing campers around into the 1970s. So the engines were also tuned for making power at lower rpm so people could still tow their camper with the newly underpowered car. Some shitty 1970s 150HP V8 will do a much better job towing a 15 foot camper than a little Honda fit would.
Specific output is literally not even a thing. In many cases upping the displacement doesn't even require a bigger block. They just make the hole wider and put bigger pistons in so that more air can get in. This is how you know you're dealing with a fucking retarded child when specific output comes up. Because it's a lot more complicated than just
>muh displacement
>muh horsepower rating
>muh mpg rating
etc

oh man an engine SO amazing they didn't want to use it. Wow really jogs the marbles there. Engine sucks so bad they put in a i6 that got better mileage, better emissions and better power too.

The rotary has NO advantages what so ever.

It has one advantage

Its a relatively small engine which is great because it fits in the trash can better.

You'd have to go there to fully understand, but Japan does not give ONE single shit about full sized cars. At all. They're not useful to them. They're not symbols of anything good and desirable to them. They are pieces of shit and they only sell them to make money. To the Japanese, someone buying a full sized car is an idiot and/or a showoff, to the point that people with expensive sportscars are considered embarassing. To the Japanese, even their sporting cars are mere appliances with a "win race" button.

However, they are happy to pour their heart and soul into motorcycles for some reason, to the point that literally fucking ducati based decades of design language off a single honda grand prix bike and even the germans, the ones who actually invented the motorcycle, are ripping the nips off with increasing frequency. Japan gets so creative with motorcycle designs that people actually shun their products for stale shit like harleys because they don't want to ride a crazy alien looking bike.

They also express a modicum of creativity with compact cuckmobiles but nobody gives a shit about those

To completely sidestep the ongoing shitstorm I always wondered there. How well would a mid engined car, with a rotary engine mounted longitudinally, handle? I know MR cars tend to *snappu*, but one reason cited is because most, if not all, MR cars are transverse mounted, which makes the center rather lopsided. I chose the rotary engine because it's packaging could effectively allow for a longitudinal mount while being fairly easy to access.

I've never had to do anything with my transmission or clutch in my 2008 sti

The only faggots who whined about "glass transmissions" are the idiots who slammed gears everyday, granny shifted and did everything to abuse their car then they wonder why it fucking breaks and blame it all on subaru. Same shit with head gaskets, they bitch and whine because they red line their shit every damn day and wonder why the engine breaks from abuse.

Yeah, it's horrible having 23 chromosomes. If only I ha 21 instead, I could finally understand the greatness of Rotatory engines.
