WHAT THE FUCK
Also post stupid laws in your shithole
>>
>>17684024

Here in Spain we can, but you have to pay like 500€ for a professional to approve of it. Europe was a mistake.
>>
>want to swap engine

Poortugal here, same. If you wanna take a nice big fart in your car you gotta pay tax for it and get it inspected to make sure it's no a health hazard. The result is the "tuning" scene here is either people who pay tickets 24/7 and rebuild their car with stock parts every year for our early inspection or people who just rice the fuck out of their car because there's literally nothing else they can do but make it sound like a fartbox.
They're also upping the taxes on imported cars the little shits, no fun allowed ever.
>>
In my country we have shit tons of regulations, but you can just not follow them and bribe the first official that notices

Here in NZ we can mostly do what ever the fuck we want as long as its still drivable and wont explode

Consumables like tires, fliters, fluids are fine. Literally everything else must be OEM spec or engineer certified.

Only southern and eastern state-... countries. Not that EU isn`t turning itself into a shithole, laws, or no laws.

Spain has never been a drug cartel run Mexico-like country before joining the EU. I have no idea what you are on about.

but apart from that our laws are pretty okay
as in, shit like a misfiring system is legal as long as it doesn't produce more noise than 90 dB
that's pretty nice I guess, you can do a lot of shit legally

Yeah, you can get away with a lot and even do so legally as long as you're willing to pay up.

Pretty sure this is repair shops colluding with the government
>>

But that's bullshit, you are literally making stuff out of your ass. Iceland is not part of the EU and it's doing just fine.
>>
>>17684024
in France you can, but you can't legally insure your car once its engine is swapped
>>
>>17684024
Ireland, heres one of ours:

Cant insure cars over the age of 15, without having been insured on them before they turned that age.
You have to then wait until the car turns at least 20 before you can get classic insurance, but for this you also need a daily driver that is fully insured in your name and cannot use your "classic" as a daily.

This has basically killed any good 90's to early 2000's shitboxes here.
>>
>>17684863
I dont think you should be posting on /o/ in the middle of your meeting mr european minister.
Get back to work turning europe into somalia.
>>

By not having their own industry halved to protect the market of economically weaker countries, by not having to care about retarded EU regulations which benefit Germany more than anyone else.

here you can swap engines, at least in older cars with less strict emissions, but you are limited to increasing displacement by 25% and power by 20% (compared to the largest/most powerful car in the model series). this means that if you want to do an LS1 swap, you have to start with something like an S-class Mercedes or an American muscle car.

Spaniard here, the EU stole all of our car liberties with their War on Cars. Now we need to pay lots of taxes from everything, and you need to do a shitton of paperwork and pay lot of money to make most car modifications, you even need to report cosmetic changes like painting your car to your insurance and Technical Vehicle Inspection. And I'm not gonna talk about politics because we are not on /pol/, but the EU really fucked our economy, demographics, and national security.

Because Greece hasnt needed to be bailed out twice and is begging for a thirs, Italy hasnt gone to the dogs due to corrupt officials, high tax and the migrant crisis and isnt on the brink of economic collapse, and Spain hasnt been fucked by a recession that has lasted nearly 10 years. Id go on and post sources but your retard brain would either let it in one ear and out the other because hurr durr the EU is good or just shut it out completely as you scream autistically that the EU was a good thing that united europe. I reckon youd be the same kind of idiot who would consider a successful reich a united europe also. Its a totally failed experiment, and a way for unelected largely socialist officials and career politicians to exact their wills on countries they have no business telling what to do. Theyre like a shittier version if the UN because unfortunately, europe listens to them.

Im sure youre now dragging your Neanderthal-esque knuckles across your desk to type out a half-baked ad-hom reply in beastly, childish anger, which I by the way I will not be reading.

I think in Croatia you can't do any kind of performance modification, but then again, who's gonna know? The car inspection guys only have a look under the hood like they even know what they are looking at, test your suspension, steering and brakes. Then they check if your power windows and other shit works inside (?). And even if they notice discrepancies, you can always bribe them.

You can't swap engine either in France and a new law has been voted which will pass in 2018 :

> Cars built before 2000 will be almost forbidden on the streets

> You'll have to pass a check-up every 6 months for a car built before 2000, every 2 years after (composed of 450 different points and costing around 90 to 150€)

> Changing parts will become illegal and if you get caught your car gets confiscated + a salty fine

Which means you'll have to change parts at your constructor's garage and they have to change them, you can't do it on your own

My country is OK but I'm really thinking about moving out because of these laws
>>
>>17689517

>>
>>17684028

>>17688017
Wait, what? We only have to get it approved if the car didn't have that engine as an option. So swapping in higher trim/turbo engines requires no government approval.

To develop on this, any imported car no matter the age has to pay taxes as if it was a new one, and on swaps you have to cover the tax for the displacement increase, again as a new car, adding to all the legalizing bullshit on swapping it. I think I even told the story once here, a friend of mine was building a Mitsubishi Colt Gti replica out of a 1.3, he gave up halfway because for the increase to a 1.8 they wanted him to pay, and brace yourselves because your body is not ready, 7500€. That's right, seventy five fucking hundred euros.

Cons:
>A guy who did 3 burnouts got more jail time than a refugee who raped a child in a park and beat her half to death
>The general public considers you worse than a pedophile for having a modded car
>Cops have obscene powers to declare you guilty until proven

Pros:

Just be careful never to do anything in the city here. You will get treated worse than if you raped a grandma.

Germany:

Vehicle inspections (TÜV).
Every vehicle part either
*has to be the OEM part
*requires that the manufacturer of the part had experts create a safety&emissions assessment (not feasible for small manufacturers or for parts with little production volume)
*requires that you have an inspector do the assessment (expensive).
And "every" means everything. Not just engine, exhaust or other emissions-related equipment but also things like mirrors, headlights, fenders, bumpers, seats, installing a brodie knob (!), installing wind deflectors (!!) or changing the bulbs that illuminate the license plate from incandescent to LED (!!!).
You can only install things like cellphone mounts.
And the emission standards are harsh and include noise "pollution", so no fart cans.
As soon as you use a part that isn't legal the whole vehicle stops being legal. That means the police can impound it and if you have an accident the insurance can refuse to pay out, even if the part wasn't related to the accident at all.

Also dashcams are illegal.

On the other hand... pic related.

Yes, privacy.
In the US you have no reasonable expectation of privacy in public.
Not all countries follow that prinicple.

You're allowed to have a dashcam in your car, you just can't "monitor publicly accessible areas" which means you can't have it recording all the time or automatically.
Same with cellphones, you can't record all the time.

By the way, devices that are used to defeat traffic control like a radar detector or an app with a speed camera database are also illegal (75€ fine and 1 demerit point just for having and not using them).
>>
>>17696616

Meanwhile:
I can change anything on my car whenever I want.
Yearly inspection costs around 25$ and consists of:
-Checking wear of suspension and brake system
-Checking if rust doesn't make it dangerous to drive
-Checking if headlights works properly
Highest speed limits on highways in EU (140kmh)
High emission? Pfft, just let me take my 30yo old Diesel and floor in the middle of capital city.
CB Radio, Dashcam? Sure, why not
No displacement tax, maybe bigger cost of insurance, that's all.
Oh, and cheapest twingo costs around 200$
>>
>>17696996
Slavland is where cars go to die, 90% of the cars on the road would have to be scrapped if the inspection was actually meaningful.
And if you want to swap a car legally you have to have it done by a certified workshop and then go through a whole bunch of legal hoops and pay a 200% premium on your insurance forever.

Yeah, because there are no new cars there, only one big junkyard of Europe.
About the law, not really. If you don't have engine number in Proof of registration, you can ride with swapped engine, as long as Police won't notice V8 in your Golf. If you want it 100% legal, you swap, you go with purchase agreement or invoice to Vehicle control station. Then you go to communications department, show them papers, pay 30$ for new fixed papers, and enjoy your LS1 legally. And insurance costs are such dumb thing (you could probably get 40$ cheaper insurance if you just move to other part of the city.) that I just leave it.

France is Autophobic desu

We used to have a wonderful country back in the 70-80-90's when it came to cars, no speed limit, no speed-bumps, no speed-traps etc.

We also have the worst taxes when it comes to cars, everything is made to make you buy the shittiest shitbox you can

There's a whole fiscal horsepower thing going on, my Miata has 9 Fiscal Horsepower, had to pay 200€ just to renew its papers with my name on it. (And it's even worse in some departments)

And I'm not even talking about bikes... you can't drive a 1000cc before you're 22 and you'll have to get 3 different licenses until you get the right to drive it

Cruising for the sake of cruising is illegal too, if you get arrested and you say that you just drive around it might get you arrested

Wheelings and drifting could get your bike/car confiscated

You can get a fine for listening to loud music or smoking while driving

The government is paying subsidiaries for driving cars equiped with speed-traps (there's actually 420 cars of this type roaming our roads right now)

It's a living hell and it keeps getting worse, add to it immigrants, muslims, gypsies and you get the pinnacle of torment for any honest citizen

Had to get off my miata to fight off a migrant who was trying to touch me at a red light. You just can't relax

Holy shit you guys, holy fucking shit. You guys just take that shit laying down? All those legislations and regulations? This is fucking staggering, I had no idea that the breadth of vehicle laws was so excessive in European countries. I know it's a meme and all but seriously how can you defend this? How is there even one person who could argue that Europe isn't an irredeemable shitcan for car owners? Holy shit it doesn't stop at car ownerships does it? Are there laws regulating how you wipe your own ass too? For fucks sake, fiscal horsepower? What the fuck man I'm horrified. In my state you just drive when you turn 16, the license test is mostly just a tongue in cheek show, they will readily give you the answers to that shit or tell you what to do so you can pass. No emissions tests, no tests at all, if it has at least 2 wheels and 2 headlights then it's good.

I'm not even that patriotic but goddamn am I happy to be American today

different California here. Gas cars older than 75 are exempt from smog, diesels older than 90. "Classics," are super fuck-with-able from the CA DMV POV, but then the problem is getting insurance to play ball depending on what it is and what you've done.

New model swaps can probably pass smog pretty easy, or they have a magic smogman who makes sure they pass smog.

This was just a dusty engine, no oil leaks or anything.
