Whats up /o/, i cant find /hg/ but this is general info anyway.
I bought a 2004 tsx off of craigslist 245k miles, kentucky car, 1 owner, garage kept all in all great shape. Owner sold it to me saying he did mobil 1 every 3k miles, i took off the oil fill cap and there is sludge and deposits. So obvious lie there, probably used dino oil, i put mobile 1 in and its turning dark pretty quickly. What are the ramifications of him using dino oil for so many miles? What are some good ways to clean sludge out, and anyone have any insight on the k24 as its my first. It pulls hard, but i dont think vtec is kicking, all in all the only thing needing to be fixed is a lower control arm, im going to change the trans fluid too dw-1 also. Help me learn to unleash this beast.

Vtec in the K series is completely different from vtec in the B and H series, it's doesn't have the kicking in effect that the older engines do. If its pulling hard then it's working
As far as cleaning the crankcase, I've used Marvel Mystery Oil before and it really helped on a high mileage B series

The most you could do without pulling that K24A2 apart is go to an oil change place, have em poor chemicals to break it down, run it, drain it, and put new oil.

Im going too pull it apart and do a valve adjustment as well as new plugs. What else could I do in there? Ive got a great tool set and have done alot of aut9motive work, just never owned a honda so nuances are lost on me here.

Fucking get you some forged pistons, rods, bearings and mains, block studs, head studs and bolts, an equal length split manifold and a hair dryer

Just make sure the timing chain and tensioner are good, the K series always make a metallic clanging noise as if the chain is sloppy when they're cold, but it should shut up when it's warm.

So that noise isnt a problem?

No, it's fine.

The k24 burns oil. Like most Hondas. Vtec is oil pressure driven. If you are low on oil, vtec won't kick in.
At 245k miles it won't matter if you switch between Dino and synth. Just stay consistent moving forward and add a quart every 1000 miles or so.
Check your axle seals. They are probably leaking.
Don't touch the valves. Self adjusting. The motor clangs because of the timing chain.
