August 12-13

This will be a two day meet with an overnight camping stop. The current plan is to start in Granite Falls at the Pacific pride https://www.google.com/maps/place/105+N+Alder+Ave,+Granite+Falls,+WA+98252/@48.083656,-121.965798,1049m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x54854cd37f1b13bb:0x1e6b388d5fc8ea5d!8m2!3d48.083656!4d-121.963604 at 11:30 and rollout at 12.

We will then drive the mountain loop over to Darrington. in Darrington we can pick up perishable supplies, ice, beer, w/e for the overnight stay.

Camping will be in the Sauk river valley, which is considered a primitive camping area. this means we will need to carry in either enough water or adequate water filtration for the second half of the day/following morning. the area could be quite hot and sunny, so bring pop up shades, umbrellas, sunscreen, etc, to help you keep cool. this is also an area of fairly high insect activity, so bring your favorite bug spray.

there is a shooting pit in the camp area, so feel free to bring something to plink with. please be smart with your firearm usage/storage

Day 2 will consist of following highway 530 up to highway 20, and then looping along the back side of the cascades back toward Monroe.

As of the last meet, it was decided that everyone needs to have a radio for communication. it helps a lot with general coordination as well as locating people in areas with no cell phone service. We recommend snagging a Baofeng UV-5R from amazon. they're dirt cheap, and surprisingly solid. Radio link >https://www.amazon.com/BaoFeng-UV-5R-Dual-Radio-Black/dp/B007H4VT7A

There will also be a pre meet Friday night at Round One in Tukwila at South Center mall. Round one meet starts around 4:30-5:00 and will be pretty lax. They have Initial D arcade games so expect massive doses of autism.

>Have there ever been any meets outside of summer?
Various areas have sponsored or supported car events. The annual Renton Cruise the Loop event is the only city government supported one I know about.

>>17668498
If you like going to public events, there is a public meet for older cruising and street cars on August 19 (saturday) in Renton. This isn't the stuck up one at Redmond.

http://rentonwa.gov/cruz/

Long time residents (this means all the balding guys at the meets) may remember all the cruising areas in greater seattle before all the anti-cruising laws got passed. The Renton event celebrates those old cruising days along with lots of people parking their old time cruising cars and showing off what they've done to them.

>>17687365
>I'm gonna punch them
You'll be in a county full of Trumpeteers. The vast majority of counties in Washington state voted for Trump by double digit percentages over Hillary.. Trump did well in granite, darrington, and concrete which are all areas near the campgrounds. But only dense inner city votes matter especially this time due to strong "Get Out The Vote" efforts to put voting boxes at social welfare centers and many public libraries in places where social welfare centers were scarce.

Your bike has zero racks? So you never really go shopping on it? A rack is quite liberating. I don't like wearing a backpack as it not only makes me hot, but it also reduces the feeling of freedom.

If you have a rack, you can also fasten a flag holder to it.

It's an R1. So no racks.
I also live a simple life, usually just buy what I want for lunch or dinner on the way to work or home, or have my girlfriend pick it up on her way home. I've learned how to pack backpacks efficiently, however.
I have two other bikes but they both need a bunch of work and wouldn't be able to keep up in case the car people decided to sprint off.

I find it less distracting to look for places using a map than google earth. The only times I see people looking for places with google earth are homeless people in the public library. They use google earth to look for places to camp out.

That a rare Monkey Puzzle tree in the background. Now, if only someone would plant one at the campgrounds, then in 30 years, they could come back and hang a 10 to 20 rashers of bacon from the branches and see if any critters managed to get them.

This thread started last saturday. One week notice too short? The previous meet for the Olympic Peninsula was cancelled by having its thread die and then not having an open thread for it. So after that, it would be understandable that the same pattern might have happened to this event until the thread started up a week ago.
>>
>>17711534
well I forgot about it until I decided to go on /o/ right now

Fuck guys, first day on the new job is tomorrow. The blue moose once again misses a meet.
Seems like a good amount of people are over here in eastern wa, we should definitely have a meet over here.

Don't forget that the rainy season starts up in October. Last year's rainy season was like the middle of september all the way to the end of april of this year.
>>
>>17709115
>before a lot of people showed up

If the campers were lucky, they found some fresh road kill for their evening curry hot pot.
>>
>>17709115
How many people showed up for camping?

Looks like the rainy season doesn't stop some car groups from touring around.
>>
>>17713971
For sure, I always try to make meets but it's been a crazy summer.

Let's hope there is room for one more meet. Camping is not my thing especially since I have no camping gear. So I'd end up buying stuff and using it just once.

>going camping w/ 4chan

just asking to get raped imo

Did overnight exposure to the oxygenated air of the forest give you a more energetic feeling compared to the lesser air in the city? It's something I've always been curious about.
>>
>>17716202
Due to the smoke we've had for over two weeks, we actually experienced some of the worst air quality in the nation. They interviewed Seahawks asking them how they felt about the air quality during practice and they said it was hardly noticeable.

Washington normally has a constant breeze from the ocean so a city like Seattle the air is actually pretty good, and we are near sea level. Lower elevation there is more air in general.

This, Eastern WA Meet PLS

>>
>>17716706
Plan one out M8
We can run later in the season without the rain being much of an issue over there too. Plus traffic is like non existent on most of the eastern side of the mountains
>>

>They interviewed Seahawks asking them how they felt about the air quality during practice and they said it was hardly noticeable.
Well, they also have an enclosed (no spy) football field besides outdoor ones to practice on. That air would be filtered before being air conditioned. All that removes pollutants.

The pollution has been noticeable to me. I started coughing quite some time ago and didn't know why. I could see the smokey air and my first thought was that there must not have been any pacific ocean storms to wash down the chinese air pollution.
>>
>>17720049
Air pollution kind of ruins the nice views. But blocked views aside, it might have been more exiting to drive after Mt St. Helens had erupted.
>>

>Plus traffic is like non existent on most of the eastern side of the mountains
But doesn't that mean the roads are barely maintained if hardly anyone uses them?
>>
>>17722300
theyre on average better than the roads on the west side by a good margin. granted theres a lot of chip seal stretches but its not giant holes and 9 billion shitty patches

WSDOT recommends a max speed of 35MPH on chip sealed roads.

Wadot can suck a dick.
80 works just fine

Gather up a list of attractions or places to visit during a Meet type activity and recommended roads to drive on near those places. There has to be some seed ideas to talk about before deciding.

Driving North to and beyond the coulee dam is a pretty good drive.
