Sorry, I wasn't very clear. I don't have a problem with replacing parts or performing regular maintenance. Really what I meant by "run forever" was that it's simple enough, and easy enough to work on, that it's unlikely to suffer from a catastrophic failure that can't be fixed by an amateur/hobbyist mechanic.

Would wearing this with a motorcross jersey over top be just as safe as an actual motorcycle jacket?

I want to look like a hooligan and mx jerseys have dank designs.
>>
>>17667711

>>
>>17667711

>Would wearing this with a motorcross jersey over top be just as safe as an actual motorcycle jacket?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=df8qizkvkbg

no. see^.

It provides very little safety in any department. You can get cheap (somewhat more effective) armoured chinese jackets on ebay, or if you want something thats actually good, get a fox or sixsixone armoured jacket.

Ultimately none of these will protect you as much as an armoured leather jacket will, however they will protect you better than an unarmoured leather jacket at lower speeds.

They wont provide any abrasion resistance, as its fairly likely the pads will rotate away from the road around your arm.

If you want to look like a hooligan, theyre a great solution for off road riding or other relatively low speed but high impact riding.

If you can, find a CE2 jacket as they are far far more protective than CE1 jackets.

CE2 jackets will be noted in the product description. If its not noted, assume CE1.
>>
>>17667716
Good enough for me then

Why are "street" jackets so afraid to go wild with designs? Its all either plain neutral colours or icon skullz
>>
>>17667460
hope it's got a 200hp/L motor like it's little brother
>>
>>17667711
motocross riders dont go very fast and dont bother with asphalt so their gear doesnt have much abrasion resistance but is designed to absorb impact.

Its not much in terms of protection when riding on the streets.
>>
>>17667711
that offers essentially no protection. might as well just wear a tshirt senpai

Once it's used and cheap then it's fine. Don't go brand new, obviously. All those 500cc Hondas are the same engine and they're built literally for learners (35kW for A2 legality).

>>17667884

Issue is I can never find the same things used unless it's a 2013 model with no ABS, no LED lights, and a few other various differences between the old models and the new. There's normally only a $1k difference between used and new too.

I have the '14 F, the engine is fun. ABS is pretty nice to have, despite what fags tell you about how "I can stop better without it". If the X tickles your fancy, you won't be unhappy. It's not as fast a super sport, it's not as comfy as a cruiser, but it's a great middle ground bike.

The seat is a fucking piece of shit though so either get yourself an airhawk butt cushion or get a replacement seat. Your ass will thank you.

Have you sat on it? Are you able to flat foot or do you have to tip-toe it? I'm 5'11" and with the F I can flat foot the bike easy but idk if the X has a significantly higher ride height or not. I'm assuming most of the features are pretty much the same since the 500s are practically interchangeable bikes.

I lucked out and got mine used with very low mileage. I kind of got fucked by the dealership but you live you learn. At least if you had to go new to get the bike you wanted they're really not crazy expensive, but hopefully you'll be able to find someone offloading one towards the end of the season.

Good luck m8

Quick. An old rich guy says he'll take you to your local dealership and buy you any bike you want if he can touch your butt once. No penetration, nothing more than that. You can walk away with any bike (that you're going to find readily available, nothing super obscure) and insurance paid. What do you get?

I have finally disconnected all of the fucking hoses and cables from my carburetor and loosened the clamp bolts, but it is securely held in place by airbox and engine boots.
Service manual is smug and succinct.

What do?
>>
>>17668335
the rubber boots get stiff and stuck to the carbs with age. blow hot air on them with a heat gun or air dryer and start wiggling the carbs around to break them free
>>

>>17668335
also use tire irons or flat screwdrivers to pry the carb out of the airbox side boot

Yea it's spoopy but it's also kind of funny too.
Any time my rear scoots I go "oshit" but I also laugh it off afterwards. It also helps to get used to it by trying to cause skids on gravel roads.

I rode around on shitty gravel roads every so often my first few months on my Standard and it helped me get a feel for how it acts and not to over-do the brake (and also to not use the front brake on gravel or grass or sand)
and also taught me to ease the clutch slow downshifting into 1st because my rear locked for like a half second and It was hilarious. Did it once and it never happened again.

I'm looking to buy a motorcycle but I've never rode one or even driven a manual transmission car. I will be taking the California public safety course next week. Realistically, how long do you think it'd take me after I finish the course to be ready to drive through California interstate rush hour traffic, doing lane splitting?

I'm looking to buy a used Ninja by the way, and I live in San Diego. Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
>>
>>17668834
If you finish the course successfully, it will take right until you find standing highway traffic before you will start lane splitting. Also depends on how much clothes you wear, but I swear even in a t-shirt it's too hot not to move.
>>
>>17668834
You'll know once you finish the course. It really depends on you. I find highways a bit scary at first and I didn't even have much traffic to deal with.
it really depends.

Since I'm in a middle of carburetor sex right now I'm inclined to recommend sr400.

The only acceptable wheelies are power wheelies. Not the ones you try to pop by sitting back and snapping the throttle around, the ones that you try to keep down but can't because your bike is a JATO on two wheels.

Here in Des Moines you have a couple of widebody Harley girls, but I also saw a woman in good shape and somewhere around 5'6" riding a newer Valkyrie like it was no big deal. The other few I've seen are squid sluts riding on the back of Chad's sportbike.

Budding squid here. What's a "reasonable" speed to be going if the speed limit is 55(mph)?

Also is running from the cops just a normal thing or what?

it depends on the road situation. if there's lots of intersections and blind corners then not very fast. if it's long and straight with good visibility and few intersections then as fast as you feel like.

By the way:
When I had my wheel off, I examined the brakes for the first time. It's been making a squeaking noise, but I don't see any wear marks.

What do you guys think? Still life on the pads? Wait for next tune, where I will hopefully have bought blocks to put it on?
>>
>>17670506
Cops generally pull you over only after 20 mph over the limit so 75 but for motorcycles they let you go up to 85, so keep it around 75~85 minimum. It's also the speed your engine performs at best usually for motorcycles. The right lane is also the best position to avoid police because they always expect speeding cars to be in the left lane plus the angle you pass them at makes it harder for them to see your plate. Cops can't catch motorcycles and they legally aren't allowed to chase you over 100mph so you just have to reach that speed and they legally have to call off the chase. Also this is fact that if you drive against traffic they cannot follow you. You can also do a quick u-turn because the turning radius of bikes is so much smaller so practice doing a "burnout turn" and drifting. Also protip: instead of buying an expensive aftermarket exhaust you can just unbolt your stock muffler. It's way louder and sounds amazing. It's important for cars to hear you coming believe it or not. Motorcycle horns are smaller and weaker than car horns so seasoned riders choose to twist the throttle hard instead of using their horn. It is also dangerous to take your left thumb off the handlebar to press the horn because you need your thumb all the way around the bar at all time to control the bike safely. Turn signals should only really be used at stopped reds or straight roads.
