Women are hard-wired to place much more emphasis on forming relationships so they are interested in the guy first and foremost then they may also by extension take an interest in things that he has an interest in

On the other hand, men are hard-wired to take an interest in things that might suggest we are more desirable mates, things like driving bigger better and/or faster cars than other guys.

If a girl has a serious interest in cars before you even meet her then it's a very safe bet she developed that interest because a man she loved had it which if you're lucky was her dad and even then will only make her much harder to impress.

If a girl is interested in you then she'll start developing an interest in your interests. There's nothing fake or manipulative about it it's her brain doing what female brains do and it's a good thing.

I've only known two women who were genuinely into what are predominantly male interests, one female car enthusiast and one female carpenter/joiner.

Both of them were some of the most knowledgeable and skilled people in their interests that I've ever known. I wish there were more grills like them out there as they were genuinely some of the most fascinating people I've ever met. Thing was, outside of their interests they were still essentially girly girls in many respects. A bit more butch (without being dykes) and a bit more capable of dealing with banter (and handing it back) but still fundamentally feminine.

I wish I'd kept in touch with them.

One thing I found interesting; the number of female car enthusiasts is tiny, due to (as mentioned in this thread) being more for mechanically inclined people (not girls). Yet there are, at least comparatively, there are quite a few women in aviation, which is also very mechanically inclined. In my 4 years training to be a pilot, I'd say a good 1/6 or 1/5 of aviators are female. Surely someone will say "because they want attention," but it is literally impossible to make it as a pilot unless you have *genuine* passion for flying, because it's expensive/difficult/knowledge-heavy and pays like garbage for a long time.
