Just bought pic related, make me regret it.

Nice, you should run it in autocross, or the Gumball 3000.
>>
>>17653447
No regrets. Actually great for the price. Brand new, $11,000 after tax credits.
>>
>>17653442
Not trying to bash. But why not regular GTI? They can be crazy
>>
>>17653464
I like the GTI's. I had an Audi A3 before this, same chassis and powertrain as a GTI. Loved it. But this was much cheaper. Since I don't commute very far it made sense for me.

good purchase OP
>>
>>17653703
Thanks man, I feel pretty good about it. I wouldn't have bought it if I didn't have access to another car for long trips. I'm going to drive it a couple years and then when I'm finished with college maybe I'll buy something sportier. Maybe a 335is or a Golf R.
>>
I would say
>no, get a 7k used leaf or a bolt
but since it's 11k... that's pretty good. Hopefully they offer battery pack upgrades in the future. In a few years sub-220 mile EVs are going to be really cheap used.... I might have to get one

The one downside is that these compliance car EVs are not supported very well....
>>
>>17653442
as long as you don't need to drive very far/have a 2nd car, it could be worse. gj on the purchase, OP
>>
>>17653745
Yeah I was interested in the possibility of a battery upgrade as well. But it's probably not economically feasible. The i3 battery upgrade is rumored to be around 8k.
It seems the majority of people are leasing these, so there should be an abundance of them for sale in a few years. I was told they are predicting a residual value of 13k in 30 months, but that seems high to me. I'm not expecting a great resale.
Also the 8 year, 100,000 mile 70% capacity warranty on the battery is slightly reassuring.
>>
>>17653800
>>17653726
Also the fact that it's built on the golf chassis at least means there is an abundance of available accessories and aftermarket parts.
>>
>>17653811
DOes yours have the DC quickcharge option? For EVs it's a must.

I can recc a level 2 charger if you need one
>>
>>17653442
isn't it slow as shit though
>>
>>17653979
Yup I made sure I got the 7.2 Kw charger option. On the DC fast charger it gets to 80% in 30 minutes. Which level 2 charger would you recommend? Haven't bought one yet for charging at home, so far I'm just using the included 110 charger that's slow as shit.
>>
>>17654005
It's pretty peppy. The instant 200lb-ft of torque is pretty fun, but yeah I wouldn't call it a fast car.
>>
>>17653442
Excellent choice, one of the few decent EVs on the market.
>>
>>17654034
Siemens VC30GRYU
>>
>>17654060
Thanks anon, looks like a quality product. Any particular reason why you recommend this model over others?

If I didnt live in an apartment I would get and electric maymay.

about 15% jelly m8.
>>
>>17654124
I'd recommend you go test drive one, I was pleasantly surprised. The dealers seemed open to negotiations. Plus there's a $6000 VW manufacturers discount with 0.0% APR for 72 montha and then there is the $7500 federal tax credit. If you live in CA there is an additional $2500 tax credit, more if you are below a certain income threshold I believe. Then there is also a $500 PGE credit if applicable. I only know of the discounts for my area but other states and companies also have there own. My insurance also gives me a discount for having an EV.
>>
>>17654180
Ignore grammar mistakes. Phone posting.
>>
>>17654180
My credit is absolute dogshit but maybe if I fix it sooner than later it'd be something to consider. I have to wonder about the cost of one of thems batteries
>>
>>17654124
Realistically it's a compliance car. If you Don't know what this means look it up.

Car and driver only got 52 miles on a single charge, worthless for a huge majority of Americans with real commutes.

No cruise control.

Top speed is 85 mph.

0-60 is 9.4 seconds. For the record the base golf with 170 hp 1.8t and SAME 200 lbs torque does it in 7.5. Some fuckery is going on.

If you can live with that then ok.
>>
>>17653442
Why not an GTE?

>>17653460
>11k
wew we (in germany) only get up to 4k€ rebate so an e-golf would cost me about $41k
>>
>>17654254
Wtf is GTE ? Dude you need to realize we are all pretty much from the US,
>>
>>17654266
We also realise you can use Google in the US

Don't talk to me or my son ever again about irrelevant German only models.
>>
>>17654266
The GTE is the same as the audi a3 etron, a hybrid, described as "electrified GTI"
Combined 210hp and 30miles of electric-only range
>open vw.com
>those ugly ass US-only models on the front page
I wonder if murricans would like VW better when they had the models from volkswagen.com
>>
retard

Is it fun? I drive a Volt and it's fun in sport mode.
>>
>>17654279
Enjoy your Mexican made VW's
>>
>>17653442
Fun little commuter car but it is very impractical tee bee ech. leasing one rn as a daily commuter since I have to commute to work everyday. be prepared to shell out money to upgrade to a better charger at home since the stock one takes like 9 hours to charge. only problem I have with it is really is the low miles per charge (85 miles). other than that the car has just enough torque for city driving and just enough speed for highway driving 85mph

>not a model 3 or a bolt

Are you retarded? Rhetorical question. You are.

You at least bought the 2017 model, right? If you didn't you should commit suicide.
>>
Sweet trolleybus anon!
>>
>>17654115
relative has one and likes it. Plus thesweethome recommends it, and I trust their reviews. Just don't get jewed on 240v outlet installation - it's not too hard to do yourself if you need to.

>>17654227
in op's case, he has 2nd car for long trips, in which case an EV is a great choice. The 0-60 does kinda suck. The skeptic in me thinks that VW doesn't want an EV golf to have better specs than a normal golf, so they software limited the acceleration on purpose
>>
>>17653442
Welcome to The Future™
>>
>>17654279
>GTE
>German only
>>
>>17654363
e-golf is the only golf not assembled in Mexico, but instead built entirely in Germany.
>>
>>17654404
The 2017 model isn't even for sale yet, the stealership says it might be changed to be the 2018 model.
>>
e-golf's alright but current EVs get fucked by depreciation, better to get used.
but i mean, if you're ok with the mediocre range and want a comfy daily EV it's your best bet
>>
>>17656038
>it's not too hard to do yourself if you need to.
the hard part is whether or not your state requires it to be inspected, which is fair because if you botch a 240v install it's a serious fire risk
>>
>>17657763
A used e-golf around my area is 16k-18k. I'd love to get new for 11k.
>>
Nice OP. Do you not get the golf GTE in the usa tho? It's pretty popular in yuropooria
>>
>>17653442
Why not the GTE model?
>>
>>17653442
Hahaha you idiot, who the fuck would get a car with buttons and shit on the dash if you could have pic related instead?
>>
>>17658092
you're trying too hard anon, too hard.
>>
Lol.

You bought an electric car from a brand that's notorious for electronic unreliability.

What the fuck goes through people's heads
>>
>>17657763
Volts that were $40,000-$45,000 new are now $14,000 with low miles.
>>
>>17657763
The used ones cost more currently because you don't get the tax credits. I'm fine with the limited range, I have another car I can drive and I don't commute far. I'm pretty happy with it, definitely comfy.
>>
>>17657980
>>17657974
We don't get the GTE. :/
We do get the A3 etron, but that's quite a bit more expensive, certainly more than I was willing to spend.
>>
Yep, that's about what the used ones are selling for here. I know the future resale value is quite uncertain, but even it loses 75% of it's value after three years, it wouldn't have cost me much to own.
>>
>>17653442
Good job, OP. The internal combustion engine is legacy technology.
