Why are modern Vehicles so big and shit compared to their predecasors?

Do have to go over this everyday? Safety and emission laws. Europe wants a big flat front so pedestrians don't get hurt when they walk in front of cars. The US now requires airbags in the pillars.

Because of safety regulation. Cars need to have these huge beltlines and bloated fronts due to modern safety standards. It sucks.
